So im working with a 5x5 room, height is a little difficult to say because its a closet and has a slanted ceiling but basicly 5ft height. with the equipent in the room *(humidifer, fans etc) this leaves me with about 4x5 to work with. I'm running a 600w HPS/MH with 3 gallon pots. Wondering how many ladys would be ideal, im looking to maximize my harvest. Currenlty i was planning on 10 kushberry (starting from clones). Could i fit more? if i added some CFL/Flouro's to the walls could i add more? Thanks for the help! Also I would be rotating them to keep light distrib equal.
Hi, Yes I think you could fit more but...Considering your tight space you might try this...Use 1 gallon square 'emily' pots, use expanded clay and start the clones in 3" rockwool cubes. The huge roots you get with the larger pots is great if you've got the space but otherwise I'd use smaller pots in a closet and go hydro, no soil. My plants grow quickly to 18 -24 inches leaving some room to vary light height. The 3 inch cubes add stability and as long as you don't cover the tops of the cubes with expanded clay the crowns don't rot. The pots are 6 x 6 inches and so 4 starts fills one square foot. In a 2 ft by 3.5 ft area I have 14 plants, you might go as many as 20 to 25 in a 4 x 5 space.
I think the one light is plenty though, you just need to arrange and rotate the plants for best light coverage, biggest to the sides, little ones in the middle. As no doubt you already know, your issues will be with the environment in the closet, temp, humidity, nutrient TDS/pH. Good Luck! Happy Gardening! GrowIT!
