Indoor Grow/Bag Seed/250w HPS

Hello folks, I am a newbie starting a grow from random bag seed. This is day 5 from germination but they only been under light for a day and a half
The Equipment I am Using is:
A Heavy Duty Cardboard Box LOL:shock:
a 250w Hps Made by Sunbeam
A 6inch Fan That Blows Air into the Box and Comes out the box
The Box Stands about 4 ft tall and I have the Light Sitting On Top Of It, The Light doesnt burn the Box so where all good there.
The Box has reflective material inside and on top

See I wasn't even sure if I was going to grow but I had random bag seeds so I threw them in a Tubberware with Holes in the bottom to let them germinate and 5-6 came up.
I moved the 2 biggest ones into half gallon milk jugs that where cut in half. (The one biggest one snapped right at the roots so its prolly going to die but Im trying to keep it alive)
The other four are still in the tupperware, as I am going to let them get bigger before I try to transplant them. because I made a idiot move today and probably killed one.

I am also wondering how far should I keep them from the 250w hps I been using the hand method to feel the heat. The Fan keeps the temp from getting too hot.
I Know 250w is usually for flowering but its all i have. This is a pretty low budget grow, im going to pick up some nutes soon (wish I had the money before hand).
Any tips would be appreciated

Anyone? Any thoughts or criticisms BTW the one that I said was going to die did all it did was lay over :(. Oh Well got 5 others

Update

Day 11 or 12 Of Vegging
Using MG Plant Food For Nutes and Spray Feed
Using MG Organic Soil Mixed With Perlite
Going to transplant in a few days

The last picture in the set looks like the start of nitrogen burn. Notice the yellowing of the leaf tips. That is one serious DIY grow bro. Interested to see how the girls do. Good luck and God speed.

Although the HPS spectrum is primarily for flowering, I once vegged some serious girls under a 150w HPS. The growth wont be as fast or vigorous, but she will grow fine.

Yeah I was thinking that but its all I have haha. But soon before flowering starts I'm either building or buying a box or tent.
Next grow I want to purchase at least a 600w hps if not a 400w.
Might pick up some cfls to help with the veg.
Yeah its a pretty ghetto DIY but they're growing fine so far.

Yeah its probably because I'm foliage feeding with nutes probably should stop on that one plant let it recover

I only foliage feed before the girls go to bed in veg. Kind of like putting Nature's dew on them for the night. I read somewhere long ago that doing it with the lights on created little heated prisms on the leafs surface and that nutrient laden drops can burn them. I've never actually seen it personally though. I'd say by the way it is affecting the whole leaf that the nitrogen buildup is in the soil. Next water feed of yours, I would flush her just to make sure you get the salts and N build-up to decline. Then ween them back onto nutrients and see what she'll take before showing the burn again.

Yeah the one that looked N burned I flushed with regular water and its looking fine.
When I foliage feed I spray then like gently wipe away the droplets so it doesn't burn them. But even when I didn't do that I haven't experienced any burns so far

Shit. For the setup I have I'm surprised anything is growing XD

I've grown them in less in the early days. My first grow years ago was in 2-liter bottles with soil from my back yard (mostly sand and clay) and MG nutes. I flowered a few dozen bagseeds and got 50% females. I had a handful of single colas that were great and got me hooked for life. Use the first few grows as a learning experience. Experiment with different things. When you found your niche, invest some dough on doing it right.

Glad the flushing worked out. The next time you transplant, make it their permanent home. No sense in continually transplanting and will only cause undue stress. I never thought of wiping the leaves down. Would be hard to accomplish with more than a few plants.

Yeah that's what im going to do not sure what size pots yet maybe transplant the 3 of them into 3 gallons and leave them till harvest. Trying to at least get over 1 oz as a first effort. Yeah the flushing seemed to work Im going to do it again to all plants, then transplant them.

The 3 Gallon Bag

I Like the 3 gallon bag because it has two holes on each side near the bottom and also has drainage holes

I Like the plastic because well its cheap and reliable

Can't go wrong with plastic nursery pots. The bags should have holes on the bottom too. Home Depot sells 5 gallon buckets cheaper than anywhere else. About 2.50 a piece. The added size would mean you having to makeshift a new enclosure. Perhaps picking up some tempered hardboard would be worth it. You can find that in the lumber section. It is real cheap and they will cut it in a few pieces so you can make a new box. I used the hardboard to cover a window in the room. It would only be 30 bucks or so for everything and would pay off in the end. If you have heat issues in the small box, making the box bigger would reduce that slightly, as would a bigger fan. Ventilation isn't cheap though.

Dude you basically read my mind that's what I want to do so yeah ill probably do that. If space is a concern because im growing in a walk in closet so I might have to build the box in the closet LOL. but if spaces a problem Ill use 3 gal pots. I probably going to use a DIY Carbon Filter but have money saved for a real one if smell becomes a big problem. They are 1 day shy of 2 weeks and they smell in their veg state so far haha.

I do 18/6. I have done 24/0 before as well. But, with 1800w going in the big room, it saves money to turn them off the extra 6 hours and i notice little difference in growth above ground. Also, I have read many places that roots only grow at night. This would seem false because we have watched plenty of plants grow under a 24.0 schedule. 18/6 gives them a night schedule as they get in nature. I try to mimic nature with everything I do. i want the plants thinking they grow in Eden.
