Is Death the End?

For all of the advanced users, what do you think of this question? The possibility that death may indeed be the end, with my essence (ego or otherwise) ceasing to exist, has really got me down; it just seems like such a sad proposition.

And even if we are all just "one," that doesn't really help the situation. I also wonder how/if reproducing factors into this whole magical mortality equation; what if, on some level, having children is the *only* way to not die, so to speak.

Grrr

- Angry that there are no answers to any of the important questions.

There are actually answers to you questions all around us. You just need to be able to accept them. But, in my opinion. I believe that death is not the end. It is only the end of life as we know it (in our bodies) and the beginning of a whole new experience all together. It would be really depressing to think that this world was just "it". Wouldn't it?

death is it.. after that, we are pretty much worm food imo...
to me, this is why man has created things like religion .. trying to make themselves feel better and believe that there really is a heaven and a hell when in fact once you die, that's it my friend..
i have yet to meet anyone who has come back from death, nobody i know used to be so in so in the 1800th century so to speak.. we have one go around on this crazy planet, make each day count, because once it's over, well, it's over, again, imo..

dont be grieved... its just nature... take awe and inspiration that EVERY single one of your ancestors had survived to procreate... :bigjoint:

otherwise... you wouldnt be here... ;)

you can however choose to hold onto hope of an afterlife if you so choose... if it helps you sleep at night... ;)

regardless of it all the earth and every bit of "life" on it, is a gonner in another 5 billion or so years... ;)

It is sad, especially to someone who doesn't believe in an afterlife. I look around and I see plants, animals, friends, family, planets, stars, and galaxies all having a beginning and an end. If an entire solar system won't last forever, how can I think that I will? Granted I have something that no star or planet will ever have... life. So who knows. When I was reading about M Theory or String Theory to some, I thought it was interesting that for the first time there was a logical and scientific explanation for there being something before the big bang. And if something can occur before the big bang, and before time itself, then perhaps something can occur after.

If we cease to exist when we die, wouldnt that make what we have right now in this moment the most precious thing of all, since we know its only ever going to happen to us once? Wouldn't that make this life even more precious, cherished and valued?

I don't know, everyone looks at everything differently, this is just my outlook... but im a glass half full kinda guy.

Just going with the flow, not really for sure about anything or whats goin on or even why... i stopped pretending to know the answers to these questions a long time ago. And just as well, that aint gonna stop me from having as much fun on this ride as possably can before its over, and i want to help as many others as i can do the same. "As soon as you're born you start dyin' so you might as well have a good time, and help others do the same".

Best of luck, stay positive.

well it also helps to understand that "life" (which btw why i put quotations around it) can be classified as both "organic" like us, and inorganic like rocks elemental material and then of course "energy"...

so we... like all "forms" of life... are all energy... but that is simply NATURAL, and doesnt have anything to do with anything "mystical" etc... ;)

so technically... we really will "live" on "forever" through the transfer of energy... ;)

lol, so you liked my post ehh?? lol, glad someone agrees.. :)

Just the way I see it to man, I was raised catholic as a child, but I am an atheist as an adult!

When it is over it is over IMO too

It is the end! So you can be a sick bastard your whole life and repent on your deathbed, be forgiven by GOD and be given entry to heaven? Fuck off!

Religion is for scared people IMO

Even if there is another existance after this, death is an end to this ego and this perspective, YOU will never be again.
But the part that someone said for all we know this might be all there is, is one of the arguments I use FOR exploring every sensation my body is capable of.

Have you ever smoked strong salvis extract? In my opinion if you can see your way through that kind of treachery, then why would you have any fear of dieing at all? There are more powerful energys at work in this universe, and as humans we have yet to evolve and sharpen our minds and our concussness to comprehend death. (and most of the time life itself.) So pertty much dont worry about death let nature take its coarse and do whatever the fuck you want whenever the fuck you what Happy tripping X)

I like to think that the law of conservation of information applies to my brain and somehow all my "thoughts" or essentially "me(without my body)"
is transported to another dimension to experience life as something else with knowledge of what I once was.

Sadly that was just a dream I had once and I agree completely with racerboy.
At worst we are worm food and we wont even know it.

I like that "the end" by the doors was put up here, let the end commence.

Death is not the end.. Dont say that.
Why not? Death is the end as surely as birth was the beginning.

That said, i know someone *very* levelheaded who shared an apparently authentic memory from a previous life with me. So since I am no longer cocksure about the beginning, i am no longer cocksure about the end. cn
