Is freezing material imperative before blasting?

Hello RIU,

Was wondering if anyone has a take on how important it is to freeze the plant material before blasting? I have only done maybe 6 runs and was able to freeze it every time. Its been while since i medicated last and am wanting to skip the freezing and go str8 to blasting. Any thoughts on whether or not this is a good idea? Will it affect yield? does that matter since i only pack nugs on first run, then grind and reblast again?

That depends on whether its wet or dry..dry you can skip the freeze and soak in ice water 20 minutes before run.

Freezing dried material for BHO is not necessary.

Many have the conception it helps with yields, so if the freezing works I would stick with it.

However, the plant material does not necessarily have to be frozen for days; freeze material the same amount of time an ice cube would take to become solid and you are golden.

Freeze your solvent for a long ass time at lowest freezer setting...

REALLY cold Solvent will in fact increase yields.

This is going to turn into a interesting thread. So i only kept the plant material in the freezer for a short hour, the butane maybe 20 minutes. I use a small glass extracting tube that is 1inch in diameter and fits about 8-10grams. Last night i stuffed it with about 9.5grams of all small nugs that i finger busted a little while stuffing. I used that new 14X refined Vector and wound up with 1.8 off the run. Which is a 19% return. So i left out the next 10grams over night near the furnace, not too close, to make sure that shit is really dry. I also froze the butane over night like suggested. Now i am freezing the plant material for maybe 6 hours before i blast again. I am excited to see if i get a better yield. I was happy with 19% forsure, the buds are really just good, nothing special, when i do my regrind and blast that will tip that closer to 21-22% return.

Schuylaar- you soak ur buds in ice water and then blast???? what???? that makes no sense to me please enlighten.....

just finshed second run with drying more, freezing butane and buds, only .1 dif,,,, yielded 1.9 off 10 grams...

so the difference in yield was negligible from frozen to non frozen, was it green as Snaps said it would be? I am really curious to see if other people have the same results with freeze/no freeze

purity of the final product is the main benefit of freezing IMO...also gets the trichs to fall off easier

there was nothing green at all with each run, both came out the exact same, amber, ill post the pics here when phone is charged, i was honestly surprised ive read so much about the difference it makes and i experienced none. Now that being said, im only blasting 10 grams at a time with a tube that's 1 inch in diameter. i wonder if the difference would be more noticeable when blasting large amounts with a larger column. I will have to wait for some other time for that. Most i ever blast at once is a OZ in 3 runs and it lasts me a long time, would be very interested to see another comparison with a large amount. Peace.

475.jpgin the orange is the first run, it has already turned to crumble wax, on the razor is the second run, pliable now but in a day or two it will look like whats in the orange, still curious why it changes texture over time.

shitty camera in shitty light, i realize its looks slightly dark and maybe a little greenish, that is the camera, its really a nice gold color.
