is hybrid lighting in a 4x8 plausible?

i’m running around 950W of LED in my 4x8 and i’m wanting to put a 1000W HPS on a light mover above them.

is this realistically going to work? or will it be way too hot? i could keep the temp outside the tent 70°F and put an intake on the fan.

will my plants benefit? or will i need to add Co2 as well once the HPS goes in.

Wow
Having a flashback at “light mover”
I abandoned those long ago
Paying to move a light and all the clearance and routing … was a nightmare
With the LED industry today it is just cheaper and less hassle to put in stationary fixtures unless you just have your heart set on moving that 1k around in there

IME too hot even with air cooled hoods. Also you lose headroom because the plants need to be at least a foot away to not risk burning & stressing the tops.

You should already use co2 I'd suggest looking into an Atlas burner and digital co2 controller to turn on/off the burner as you reach setpoint.

Plants will benefit from co2 with any light source but with HPS especially 1000w I noticed a large increase in plant performance and yield. Leaves pray a lot harder and that just tells me they're happily transpiring and feeling happy. When I didn't use co2 I would never have plants as perky with ambient co2 levels going down as low as 300-400 lights on. I also noticed water uptake was slower without co2 which means less action going on in the plants in my lamen brain.

Also electricity cost as you've noticed from 950 watts is not cheap even @ 12/12. I've calculated 1000w (1kw) costs me around $55/mo @ 12/12 Per Light. I since switched to 645w Luxx Pro LEDs and I'm getting similar performance with half the power (3 LED fixtures vs 4 HPS hoods). I had to run 4 x 1000w HPS because the ceiling height being lower and PPFD was dropping in between lights way too much like less than 300 PPFD where I shoot for 500-600 minimum.

The LED sounds good enough to run off the light mover to cover that space on it's own.

I got a Light Rail 4.0 to use with two 600W HPS light mounted back to back to light up an 8x4 space I haven't built yet. I have a 1000W but the 2 - 600s give 50% more lumens while using only 20% more power and at 30¢/kwh for power here if not more that makes good economic sense.

Getting an LED light to do the job is looking around $1000Can and would use near 1000W anyhow so I doubt I'd live long enough to recoup the savings in power to pay for it. My light rail has paid for itself a couple times over by now.
