Is it important for plants to be transplanted from smaller to bigger pots?

I am wondering as I see this all over internet, but why?
When you plant it outside it grows bigger and healthier and it is not transplanted 2-3 times as some would say it is important to do so,so why wouldn't I plant it straight in 5 liter pot when indoor?

I am sure there are many factors.. I would say that due to worms and other 'burrowing' creatures aerate the soil by breaking and and loosening it. So for a young plant to get enough roots to grow, it needs O2. It is much easier to aerate a smaller container then going straight into a big pot... also the chance of root rot if the soil is too compact. Now given if the soil is properly aerated and good drainage.. then I do not see why not myself. The only thing for clones is a dome and humidity until the roots grow..
will wait for others input on this myself.

Not sure about that. I know most people start with small pots simply because you can get more under the light. After they start growing though they need to get into bigger buckets. 5 liter seems small though. Everyone I talked to said 5 gallons and 3 gallons was about the smallest I've heard. I don't really think it matters. You can put them in big containers once they're rooted good though. That's what I plan on doing. I'm only on my first grow.
