After my first grow I'm going to get an agar kit, I like the idea of it, the fact that you can grow a little culture and just throw it in the grain without needing any needles or anything.Very well possible, its called Cross Breeding.
It's actually how Albino Penis Envy came as a strain. It is PF albino and Penis Envy cross breeded together. APE also drops clear spores, kinda cool
It's not a simple process though, and it requires that you have vast knowledge on how to use agar.
Basically, you isolate a single spore on agar and let it colonize then use that to inoculate a jar of substrate.
This mycelium blob will be unable to fruit, mind you.
Then once the jar is about 90% colonized, you must add the spores from the strain you wish to cross, once thats finished colonizing, you fruit it.
And that's the strain you created, but there's no use unless you preserve it.
So let some mushrooms fully mature, then spore print it and make a syringe, and there you go, your own strain!
I wish to one day cross breed some strains, but that would be WAAY in the future.
Yeah I was gonna get that one, their shipping is outrageous lol. And thanks for that coupon, that'll help I've got 2 syringes but they'll both be used by my tubs and I'm gonna inject 4 LC's, 2 of each.Yes agar is definitely something to look into
I'm ordering a pack of 10 syringes off mushbox just so I have more than 2, because as of right now, I cant do a LC because both my syringes have spores in them .
And here is a nice agar kit : http://www.mushbox.co/pour_agar_plate.html , if you type the discount code shroomtalk you get $5 off which narrows the total down to $19.99.
Would my method of injecting my LC's with microspores work?Agar is using petri dishes with agar substrate on it to colonize with myc.
Lets say you do a bulk grow, and there is a monster fucking shroom on there, you can isolate that shroom and put it on agar, and you get some myc of that shroom.
So when you fruit the sub that you got from that monster shroom, you get some more monster shrooms.
Of course, it can be expanded on and before you really learn agar I suggest you either start with the PF tek or just go straight to grain.
I was researching LC's and came to the conclusion that you only need 1-2 cc of MS. So in reality you could use 1 syringe, do 8 jars MS inoculation, then do 2 LC's and have an empty syringe to inject other jars with said LC's. But, if you're trying to get 2 LC's of different strains, you could leave 1 cc in one syringe, then inject the other LC with 1cc of the other strain. But then you would either have to trash the rest of the MS syringe, or just inject another grain jar.I was going to just use some of my syringe. I have 2 10cc syringes. That's 8 jars at 1cc each and then 2 LC jars for each syringe. Would that work?
That was my plan 8 jars of APE and 2 accompanying LC's, and then 8 jars of PF Albino and 2 LC's for that.I was researching LC's and came to the conclusion that you only need 1-2 cc of MS. Just thought I'd share it, mainly because of the vacuum-sealed part. Also, if you put the ring on upside down, would it have a vacuum seal since the rubber part isn't on the top of the jar?You can bore a small hole big enough for a syringe needle in the top of a jar. (Half pints work best for this) Now put a blob of silicone sealant on it (preferable transparent) on both sides. Swirl it around to make sure it is a centimeter thick around the hole on each side. This is a self healing inoculation point so you can add spores and suck up inoculant without having to open the jar after sterilization. If you band the jar tight before pressure cooking, it will form a vacuum and suck in spores, so you must only prick the injection spot quickly. If you leave the band loose, you should tighten it right after the pressure cooker has cooled down, as it will not have a vacuum seal. You should always wipe your silicone injection spot and needle (flame sterilize before) with alcohol before inoculation.
