Is it safe to plug a 600 watt ballast into a "cheater plug"

Ran out of vertical growing space so I need to bring a plant upstairs. The bedroom has the old 2 prong outlets that are not grounded. Would it be safe to plug a 600 watt ballast into a cheater plug with 3 prongs?? What could happen?? Could it start a fire or shock/electrocute me?? .... Also I plan on getting the GFCI's professionally installed soon.

The cheater plug as you call it us designed for that so no you shouldnt have any problems unless your just pulling way to many amps

Really? I wouldn't do it. I mean if it's two prong then the wiring in the wall is old too. Is it aluminum? Ever had rats? I am very conservative when it comes to electricity and you will probably get away with it 99.9% of the time. That .1% can be a tragic mother fucker tho. I say climb in your attic and run some 12 gauge romex. Use the existing wiring to fish it down to the outlet bro. May you sleep well at night knowing your family is safe. Peace and love in 2016.

I personally wouldn't sleep with it, and that's about the only time you see that in writing. Unless you are budding, I'd top that bitch.
:bigjoint: If ya gotta do it make sure nothing else is on the same circuit.

I was going to suggest just grounding it but that wire is old. I dunno. I'm glad I bought my house when it was new and don't have to worry about what jacked up shit a previous owner did. I'm noid like that tho.
It depends on what wire is in the house.

I would at least run new wire on a dedicated breaker.

No sense in being unsafe.

If it has proper gauge wire in good shape I would ground it.

The house we just got was horrible. Spent the last two years undoing fuck ups.

The wiring and plumbing. Hell they had gutters run underground to the septic. Had to rent a backhoe to fix it.

I can't stand people cutting corners. I guess it comes from being in the military and that "attention to detail" they drive into you.

I wouldn't use the adapter. Be safe. Its not worth burning your house down or gettting electrocuted.
