2017-08-07 22.46.33.jpg 2017-08-07 22.48.36.jpg I've been trying to clone an intact, uncut branch by wrapping a wet cloth around the stem and sealing everything with foil. It's been a week so I undid the wet wrapped branch to find what looks like a root stud? But it also looks like those fungus you find living off a tree stump.

Anyway, I made a cutting out of it. Hoping it's a root mass and not a fungus. I tried peeling the stud off but it feels like it's part of the stem. Very hard and firmly attached.

Not sure what to make of this. What do you guys think?

What you did is called air layering...normally you scrape the stem area that you're going to wrap, apply a rooting hormone of choice and then wrap it...I usually scrape, apply rooting hormone then pack some slightly wet organic matter around the area and finally a plastic baggy cut open and wrap that around the cloning area and tie it with twist ties at both ends...you can monitor the root growth through the clear plastic baggy that way...what you have looks like the beginning of roots forming...I now use a bubble cloner and when I peak at the clones during a water level check I always notice bumps like that form just prior to roots showing up...g/l

Yeah that's the "scabbing" you get from hormone use - before the root actually forms.

that is an emerging 'rootlet' a continence might be to wrap some soil in that bandage, keep wet and light proof, called 'air layering' see youtube

a lazy, .. easy way to take clones

good luck
