As someone who found 2 balls on separate plants I can say this; when I saw a male flower I knew it 100%
Everything else I looked at suspiciously ended up being obviously female after I saw what a male part looked like with my own eyes on my own plants

Yeah just keep a close eye and pluck them. Wet your fingertips first to help catch/kill any pollen.
