Is this an OKAY way to mount a carbon scrubber?

Hey I have an inline fan directly connected above my cab, so it's mounted horrizontally. Right now I have a 12" x 6" carbon filter placed right on top of the fan, so it looks like this (forgive the crappy ascii drawing). This is the fan

Is this way as good as any for mounting? The reason I ask is because my inline fan blows much more air through the intake / exhaust when I take the filter off (it's also way louder).
