worst disaster ever and it hasn't even started yet. there is no end in site and the oil is in "the loop" and headed for the east coast. funny how gas prices haven't risen yet. maybe because it would draw more attention to why and what's really going on.

the reaaaallly scary part for me is that the 210,000 gallon per day estimate is from bp and they admit it's at the low end of the range. some scientists have estimated the flow as 10 times as much.

You would think they would have some kind of a standard way of dealing with this mess, only makes sense to have a plan just in case....suck that "just in case" has happened and there is no plan......the dispersion liquid is scary, that shit is just bonding w/ the oil floating on the water column.

I have good friends that make their living commercial fishing, many actually....even though we are in New England, they are all concerned. My business thrives on tourists, I make 70% of my income from May-Novemeber........... if that shit starts washing up on the beaches here, my entire community will be in a heap of trouble. No fishing and no tourist is gonna pay to sit on an oil poluted beach.........Just in time for Hurricane season to start yippeee :-(

In regina on the news they had a researcher from our university who said he worked on the well and its dumping at least 1 million a day as a low estimate.

If I can find the clip I will link it, it was CTV or CBC.

Ya this will easily be the worst ecological disaster in the USA once everything is said and down. I can't imagine how many people will lose thei lively hood for decades.

And republicans are trying to keep BPs cap for damages at 10 mil.

NEW ORLEANS – The gooey oil washing into the maze of marshes along the Gulf Coast could prove impossible to remove, leaving a toxic stew lethal to fish and wildlife, government officials and independent scientists said.
Officials are considering some drastic and risky solutions: They could set the wetlands on fire or flood areas in hopes of floating out the oil. ........

this shit has blown my mind. its fucking tragic and i feel for the people and wildlife down there. we can police the world and go to the moon but we cant fix this. seems as if there is no urgency involved, like ho hum we will try to come up with a solution to it one day.

Fucking A. This shit is getting crazy. I can't believe they don't know how to shut that bitch off! How much pressure is there?

My Brain storming (Might be considered brain cooking since I'm high)

Explosives - Pump a shit load of high explosives into that pipe and light it off. Maybe the weight of the resulting rubble will clog it up? (I think that was the intention of the Russian who suggested using a tactical nuke!)

Heavy-ass dome - So make a big dome, concrete or steel, that has a double hull. put it over the fucking hole and fill the void between the hulls with pellets of lead or depleted uranium to work against the pressure.

New pipe - Just make a pipe that will fit into the old one! Stick it in.

So, I'm sure there are reasons why none of these would work, but hey...BP knows what they're doing. Right?

You'd think these mofos would make some/alot of emergency close-off valves way down there...stupid ass people and their greed! BP better pay for all this sheooot!

hey BP thanks for closing down all the gettys and now this! you evil bastards!

i hate the oil industry and i feel soooo bad for the creatures and ecosystem

top kill dosnt work, neither did the top hat and the dispersant is more harmful than the oil

6 whole weeks and no solution that works! this is the worst catastrophy that mother nature has had to deal with in the last century, if not ever

yea great idea, lets set off a nuke.....brilliant!

as for pressure, i think they saaid 20,000 pounds per square inch of sea and the oil is coming out at 70,000 psi. as it explodes out of the rig it certainly is under a lot more pressure than the ocean.

now all you engineers can get your calculators out and tell bp how to fix it......
