(CNN) -- The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will take up a bipartisan authorization bill Wednesday for the use of force in Syria, sources told CNN.
The resolution, which limits the authorization to 60 days with an option for an additional 30 days, was revised to address some of the concerns expressed during a Senate committee hearing Tuesday.
At the hearing, top U.S. officials faced tough questions from senators about plans for military strikes as House leaders lined up behind President Barack Obama's call to punish Syria for an August poison gas attack near Damascus.
Afterward, Foreign Relations Chairman Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, said he and the committee's ranking Republican, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker successfully negotiated a revised bill.
According to a copy of that text, provided to CNN by a legislative source, the bill limits the authorization to 60 days with an option for an additional 30-day deadline. It also makes clear there would be no U.S. boots on the ground.
"Together we have pursued a course of action that gives the President the authority he needs to deploy force in response to the Assad regime's criminal use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people, while assuring that the authorization is narrow and focused, limited in time, and assures that the Armed Forces of the United States will not be deployed for combat operations in Syria," Menendez said.
"With this agreement, we are one step closer to granting the President the authority to act in our national security interest," he added.

Awesome! Now more of the world thinks America is a warmongering nation.
Well Congressional Support means the Islamists can blame your citizens.

It also means you're now officially in bed with the people responsible for 9/11.

America "Allah Akbar" Yeah!

What a joke. Anyone following what is really going on is going insane. The rebels have pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda. The most proof they have of anyone using chemical weapons is Saudi workers giving chemical weapons to the Al Qaeda rebels and they blew themselves up. For all the "proof" the US is claiming, they arent showing a lot. Anyone remember the WMD's in Iraq? Same thing, different dictator. Obama needs to be impeached for war crimes, breaking the constitution and gutting America

I'm hoping they've devised a weapons system to shoot down Tomahawks in flight.

Kind of an "iron dome" style thing, wtf would yous do then?

Cos Obama hasn't got the stones to engage Russia directly, and Russia only shot down missiles...

Terrorist group fills power vacuum among Syria rebels

By Nada Bakos, Special to CNN

January 10, 2013 -- Updated 1544 GMT (2344 HKT)

Editor's note: Nada Bakos is a former Central Intelligence Agency analyst.

(CNN) -- In the midst of the struggle against Bashar al-Assad's government stands Jabhat al-Nusra, recently designated by the U.S. State Department as a foreign terrorist organization.

A new report by the Quilliam Foundation in London says the organization is the most effective arm of the Syrian insurgency and now fields about 5,000 fighters against the Assad regime.

Practically speaking, the terrorist designation means little that is new for the immediate struggle in Syria. Shortly after al-Nusra claimed credit for one of its early suicide bombings in January 2012, the Obama administration made known al-Nusra's connection to al Qaeda in Iraq, a group with which I was intimately familiar in my capacity as an analyst and targeting officer at the Central Intelligence Agency.

He said that over a year ago. And its been the US policy for the last 30 years
Last week he repeatedly said regime change wasn't his concern.

Now it is, he's a bullshitter, you're not a liberal, you're a centrist... Why can't you call it the way it is?

Why is it everything the Obama admin does has to be justified by historical precedent? First you liberals bitch and moan because of bush era foreign adventures then when Obama does the same thing, the line is "well... bush did it"...
