That is an excellent video.

The best and only way to combat harmful drug abuse is to focus on why people do it and to get them the proper care. People like to make drugs the scapegoat but the fact is, people do hard drugs because they are hurting in one way or another. Most of the time this is due to bad stuff going on in their life and or because they are genetically pre-disposed.

Anyway, the only way to combat this is through education and treatment. The first step is identifying high risk children while they are young. Too often we see these parents of drug addicted young people on TV wondering what went wrong. They seldom admit it might have something to do with the fact that they let their kids run wild with no idea where they are at 2am. Or, we see a single mom who neglects to mention that numerous guys she was shaking up with over the years were groping her young daughter while she was at work. Nope, none of them ever have a clue where they went wrong - duh!

And of course nobody wants to be held accountable for their decisions in life - that is just human nature. We all want credit for everything good in our lives but don't want to own what is bad. So, instead of looking at whether or not we are living healthy lives and doing what makes healthy children, we look for scapegoats. That's what the war on drugs is. That way we can blame all of these bad guys for the fact that our children are fucked up emotionally. Either that, or we label the ADHD and give prescribe them amphetamines.

Yep, pointing the finger is always easier than pulling the thumb.

I can't list any references but I came across an interesting statistic recently. It seems that before drug prohibition 1.3% of the population was addicted to narcotics, What is it today? Appproximately 1.3%.
A certain % of the population will always be addicted to drugs whether legal or not.
