just another newbie Q&A!!

Hi all really love this forum and thank everyone for your help, first time grower long time smoker. I finally got my grow room!!

My temps is about 86
Humidity at 54
Using 5 daylight 26watt cfl's

I am using miracle grow organic and i am just getting the stems to pop through, never thought i could get this excited about growing a plant!!

My question is i have them growing in a dixie cup and wanted to know if i could keep them in there until i find out the sex? My problem is I have 11 going but only really need one or two, but didn't know what i was doing so i germanated them all, but i don't have the room to transplant all 11 into 5 gallon containers. So will they make it in the dixie cups long enough to tell the sex?

Also, when should i start using some nutrients, don't want to use them to early especially since i am using miracle grow.

Sounds good so far! I know what you mean - I am pretty excited about my little ones, as well. General rule of thumb is no nutes for the first month. No you can't keep 'em in dixie cups, they won't show sex until they preflower, by then they will be quite a bit bigger!

The only way they could show sex in dixie cups if u put them on 12/12 now.As for adding nutes wait for the first 2 bottom leaves to yellow.

You may want to put them in 16oz party cups, once they grow a while. If they are paper cups, they will decompose in the soil. My babes are about 16 in. tall in cups, and they don't seem to be rootbound. Another bonus is the roots are visible throught the cup. Put the clear cup in a red cup, so the roots don't get any light. Plant any rejects at the local police station. itll be on the news. good luck.

lol. im sure theyll be on the news but so will the person that planted them. haha

how much total room do you have L&L and id flush the mg soil before i transplanting the seedlings

you can grow plants quiet a bit in cups https://www.rollitup.org/members/jgrows4u-albums-my-first-grow.html check out some pics of my first grow there all in cups and being root bound only means the plants will grow slower they would have to be very rot bound to do any kinda harm to the plant and y are you going to transplant all your plants into 5 gallon buckets?

That is what i have been reading is after a couple of weeks to transplant to a 3-5 gallon container, i just have a small closet grow 2x2 and thx for all responses

it all depends on how big you are going to grow your plants if they are going to be 5-6 feet tall then yeah but anything under 5 feet you dont need to go that big

no i only want them to be about 4' tall at most, so would like a 2 gallon bucket work or what would you guys say? I just have a small closet grow room

yeah you prob could get a way with a 1 - 1 1/2 gal pot if there just going to be 4' tall

If you have a nice grow area set up try and upgrade the lighting to a 250 hps.The reason that i say a 250 instead of a higher wattage is that you can get to grips with the heat far easyer.You will still need the lighting that you have for the clones that you will need to take for the next crop.Also after this grow try and go for a nice compost instead of the miricle grow.I'm not a fan of m.grow it has far too many additives for my likeing i like a good compost say 70% 20% perlite 10% pete this will give you a nice cusion fr the plants.I like to keep the ph in the range of 5.5/6.5 this has always kept me in good stead.The cfl's that you are useing have not got the power to produce the ammount of bud that we need to make it worth the risk.If you are gonna continue to use cfl's till you get some better lighting use 150 watt daylight spectrum.Get has many of these light around and above the plants has possible.You also want the same quantity of warm and cold spec so that the plants have a little warmth.Buy the best nutrients that you can afford sensi plus/vitalink you can get this on line or a good tommoto feed if you have trouble getting the other two.Start the flowering process at around 1ft tall and you should have a good healthy plant.The yeild will not be very good but that is down to the lights have a fan blowing at the lights to put fresh air in the room while the lights are on.I would go for 18/6 because not much more is to be gained from haveing the lights on 24/7.I think that the lights benefit from the lights been off for 6 hours the plants will still be doing there stuff while the lights are off.Alot of dudes think yhat once the lights are off the plant holts in growth [rubbish] messure them over a week and see how much the plants grow.And on your next grow see how much your plants grow on 24 hours of light i have tested this under a 600hps and the plants only had a ince and harf more growth.Make sure that you only water once a week but wet the plant through when you do and you will have a far better rooot mass than watering every day/other day].Good luck peace keep green tyke.
