Just getting going......

Ok, so after about 25 years of "family life" I have decided to try my hand in growing ........for medicinal purposes of course. I am considering a grow room in the top of a shop/outbuilding which is very warm in the summer(NC), and would like to try CFL's for budget reasons. I would have to cover the plants during the pm with rubbermaid cans to block out the light. I feel like 3 plants would be plenty so I don't need much room. I DO know that I'll have to raise many more to come up with some females and pitch the males. All and any advice would be GREAT. I was the head of a seeding operation for 11 yrs on a farm so I'm not totally in the dark about basic grow techniques. Like I said ANY (viable) input would be great. Thanks, Gr11nch

i suggest you lightproof the building youre growing in (im guessing its some sort of shed?) instead of placing rubbermaid tubs over the plants at night.
To deal with the heat issues i recommend you get some intake and exhaust fans.
How many CFL's and how many watts?

1. Use a grow tent
2. Dont put rubbermaid buckets over your plants.
3. Dont put your grow tent in a warm area.
4. CFL is fine for vegitative growth, but not good enough to flower good bud.
5. Purchase feminized seeds so you won't deal with dudes.

You'll need:
1. grow tent
2. digital ballast
3. timer
4. enclosed hood
5. bulb
6. carbon filter
7. inline fan
8. fan controller
9. wall fan
10. ducting

Then u get to hydro vs soil. How do you want to grow?
