Just harvested, quick question.

Hello,

Just harvest my first plant, it was a practice plant so expected low yield.

I know you normally expect 20-25% dry weight compared to wet weight. I didn't water two weeks before harvest, allow a lot of the fan leaves to die of on their own. I was just curious since I did a dry period before harvest, if I could expect a little more from yield, because I got one of my colas weighing 10g and I just can't see this huge thing shrinking all the way to 2.5, and it's well solid, not airy.

It will still lose the weight. I think more than anything you just decreased your yield and strength of your grow. The last two or three weeks is when a plant typically puts on a large percentage of its' final weight and mass. Cutting the water back this early and lack of nutes during this final period in its life cycle is at best ill advised to achieve the best final product. I believe in your next grow you will see a much nicer harvest when the plant is kept happy up until you suprise her one morning with the pruning shears. Just my two cents though.

Most new growers don't get more than 15%-20% off wet weight fully dried & cured.


If you have done what you said and not watered the plants for 2 weeks, your plant will have started rotting & dying.
If you had leeched your plant (which many people do) you would have deprived your plant of all it needed in its final weeks of flowering to really push through and produce.
I don't understand how you could have taken it 10 steps further and deprived your plant of _water_?
And not only deprive it of water, but for two weeks?

If I deprive any of my plants of water for 1 day or maybe 2 days they will collapse upon themselves, they will be almost beyond the point of saving.

What I mean is, how must your plant have looked?
No water for 2 weeks? Did you harvest a brown stick?

Well like I said it was an experiment, practice plant, so you can both ease up a bit.

When I get back from my Thanksgiving I can post pictures of the plant. It looks and smells wonderfully, and even with a quick dry to test potency it still was fairly strong.

I use my own mix of potting soil, so if the case is that you should of fell over, I use a good amount of peat moss to hold water and nutrients in the soil better.

By the time I harvested the leaves were droopy and loosing color, but the buds and tricombs still look wonderful, and no decaying.

I am going to college for Horticulture, so it's not like I don't know anything what I am doing, just cannabis specifically, and I enjoy testing new ways to do things.

well hell i like the attitude u have about this keep trying new things just dont keep any secrets from riu
no jk bout the buds tho the last few weeks are when buds just seem to pop with life
u should do that again same way with a clone from the plant and do the clone watered its entire life then compare witch is bigger and which is more potent it would be a fun and long argueous test

yeah try to do that non flush to see the result ? all ladies will bulk their buds more in their end of cycle, incerase bud production...thats way you will get the more yield...and more important is dry your buds very slow , that will have a good smooth smoke and tasty :)

Yes, what you are saying is true. Greenhouse seeds company also shows this in their videos. Their "secret" of fattening up their buds is to allow the soil to dry fully before each watering, and have the soil more dry before harvest. By allowing the soil to dry, the roots get filled with oxygen, and allow the plant to "push" harder or something as they called it. I believe in it, and I allow my soil to get very dry before each watering. However, for my final flush, I like to just flush water and clearex from botanicare with overdrive from advanced nutrients. The clearex leaches any salt residue in the roots, and the over-drive makes for some frostttyyy plants.

I dont plan on depriving my plants of anything except nutes the last weekish before i harvest but water continuously. Its my first grow tho and I am hydro

By allowing your soil to dry out you kill the root hairs that uptake water, nutes and oxygen tho.

Also pre-harvest flushing in soil, do we have to go through this again?!

Generally with roots in it.

J/k, it's doesn't matter what your soil is like as long as the plant is green and happy. You can submerge the entire root zone for 5 days in water before harvest, it's known as the fermentation method. Look her up, let's you start curing before you harvest. (It's what toilet growers are trying to do but are only getting half the facts.

u didnt do much damage.. It doesnt rain every 3-5 days, in the real world. so while not watering for 2 weeks isnt the best of situations to put your plants in.. you didnt "ruin them"..

How far before havest do you do this with the overdrive????

i'm always curious to know an approximate dry weight so i divide the wet weight by 3. this gives the lowest dry weight i'll get! i always get more than 1/3rd but how much more depends on the mood of the gods etc..

the batch i just cut was needing watering or harvesting. i decided to harvest and will definately get more than 1/3rd due to them being at that point of needing watering!

this is a pile of super silver haze that i just trimed! i'll get around to weighing it after a few more joints.

Leaching is bad? Even if you're using a nutrient solution? Why?

That must be the highest wet/dry ratio Iv ever heard. Minimum of a third? Someone mustn't be trimming properly ;)

What?
Everyone who grows Cannabis uses some form of a nutrient solution.
Yes pre-harvest leaching is bad for your plants, I have explained why many times before, just look up my previous posts and you'll find all the arguments pro & con.
