Just plants! Im nervous!

I just planted my first germinated seed in my organic potting mix! It is in a 6 inch pot, undernearth 1 24watt CFL. I have the CFL light about 3 or 4 inches above the pot. I also have just a regular light bulb about 2 foot above the plant. I have a fan in the closet as well, it is currently 78 in there. I planted the seed earlier today and watered it when I planted it. I didn't soak it, just enough to get all the soil moist. I'm wondering how long it will take for the seed to break soil. And how far away should I keep my 1 CFL light. I also plan on buying 4 more CFL lights tomorrow, I still just need a bit of help on which ones to buy?

Planted for 10 hours, under 1 24 watt CFL, and 1 100watt normal bulb. I need help on Which CFL's To buy, and how long should it take for the seed to break soil? Also how far away should I keep my lights from my plant?

YES I AM A NOOB this is my first grow!

How many seeds are you planning to plant? As a good rule of thumb, aim at about 4000 LUMENS of light per square foot. That's about 3 of the 23 watt CFL's..... as far as the regular incandescent light, get rid of it ASAP. Too much heat and also waste of electricity... I would get the DAYLIGHT 6500*K bulbs... about $7/each at Lowes.

The seed should break anywhere from 48-72 hrs, depending how strong it is and how deep you buried it. Keep the lights about 1 inch above the plant..

I put it like right under the soil. And I have 1 light over it about 2 inches away. I removed the normal light bulb and planning on buying 3 more 1200 Lumens lights tomorrow.

I don't know about others, but I'd suggest getting one more "WARM" cfl (2700*K) and two of the 6500*K ... that would keep the baby happy...

Im going to buy 4 more 1200 Lumens bulbs tomorrow! Thats 5 CFLS and we will get 1 that is warm! We are growing 2 plants at once. How long should we keep them under light after planting them? And also how deep should we plant the seeds?

You'll get different reactions from different people... some say 24 hrs/day, some 18/6, some 20/4... I don't think anyone has ever proven any one correct.. start off 18/6 then see how your plants react to the light

plant them about 1/2 inch deep

Another question! how long do I keep my plants in vegitation cycle? And from what I understand Veg cycle just means they are growing in height and growing leaves and stems, Then When I switch to Reproductive cycle they grow bushier and produce the bud. How long should I keep them in each cycle? And what are the best light cycles for northern lights during veg and reproductive? I cant grow my pants much taller than 2 foot because Im growing them in a closet!

I like 18/6 because it gives the HID's a rest each day (recommended), cuts down on electricity, and reduces heat at the hottest point of the day. I used to run 24/0 and I don't notice a big difference.

You can veg as long as you want, but they will grow, and in flowering it will grow, oftentimes doubling in size (sometimes more). 24" isn't going to be a lot of space, you will want to go for a bush, and practice pruning, get used to how to sculpt the plant. Flowering is based on strain mostly, and they will become ripe. Read up on the harvesting and curing forum for info on how to tell how ripe it is, and end of flowering advice.
