Grown with a 50$ cfl lamp purchased from homedepot, a fan, a clothes hanger, and party cups. The medium I'm using is bisqued pottery shards, which are semi-fired rejects and clay shards from a ceramics studio. The clay is porous, however all the chemically combined water is fired out making it inert (I think... never really measured it or anything), and insoluble to water. Thought it was a good use of kiln space in pottery class to fire up some crumbs for hydroponics.
The plants were started in rock wool and then I put them in the clay in a small plastic cup. I cut a slit at the bottom of the cup and put a piece of felt through it, and then I put the cup in a larger red cup filled with nutrient solution. The setup works by capillary action, and this is indoors of course.
The strains are a smorgasbord of selection purchased from the attitude 420 sale. At this point I don't think it really matters.
There are about 20 seedlings, They are 8 days old since the earliest sprout but a lot sprouted late, and I also started some later. Also 2 big ones are about 3 weeks old.
A view of the hydroponic "system" lol. This is probably the cheapest way and it requires no electricity. I remember they did this in my 3rd grade class for our gardening project or something; we grew tomatoes and cucumbers of course, no pot.
Yup dats my growop, I plan on moving them outdoors later, as for some reason whenever I start seedlings off with 100% sunlight they always get super fucked up and stunted in a week and never grow past 3 inches or something. Must be the california sun; it's too strong.
The big ones 3 weeks, and started from windowsill light. I think it's stunted, but the smaller ones are only 8 days old at max. Many are younger.
4 day old "La chocolat" Also a great close up of the pottery shards.
