Keeping a good strain as a 'houseplant'

I have a couple of seedlings that I have considered planting in soil and keeping as houseplants. These were started in a hydrobucket and I need some advice from some of you who plant outdoors.

Can I just transplant to a standard soil or do I need some of this high $$ Fox Farms soil I see you guys talking about? I can keep them from flowering and getting too tall with no problem. I live alone in the country and have a driveway alarm so I'm not worried about being discovered either

I would like to keep her as my Motherplant to take cuttings for clones in my DWC setup. And beyond that I enjoy having plants around the house.

Can I use standard soil puchased at Lowe's and mix in some Perlite like I do for regular houseplants and water with some occassional fertilizer?

Once again, I'm not looking to flower her or grow some GIGANTIC Motherplant. Just to be able to keep her alive for taking clones and just to have her around.

I'm a newbie to hydroponics but have managed so far not to f*ck anything up that I havent been able to fix. Planting in soil however is a totally new ballgame to me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS

I like to do 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 compost, 1/3 soil from an existing garden, pot, etc. Don't need to buy anything fancy, the potting soil and compost we're like $2 a bag for 1 cubic ft i think. That's what I'm using in my outdoor grow, almost 6 wks veg, haven't given them anything but water. Maybe keep a high N guano tea for once a week waterings or something since it will be vegging the whole time.
