Decarboxylation & Brownies
I just finished reading an article by Old Hippy on Decarboxylation from the most recent issue of Treating Yourself magazine, and it includes a recipe for Alice B. Toklas "Tokeless Canibus" brownies;
I figured I would share the directions as the temperatures and instructions vary from other methods I have tried or heard of in the past...Then I would make a batch to test out the method:
1) Preheat to 225 (105C)
2) Lay cannabis on bowled-up sheet of aluminum foil on top of a cookie sheet in the oven
3) You can how heat the Cannabis for 60 minutes, OR use the slightly more complex and effective (and patented!) method of 225 for 15 minutes followed by 250 for 60 minutes...
4)Take out of the oven, let cool for five minutes or so; It will be brown, brittle and easy to grind...
...The result is fully activated Cannabis, which can be put directly in gelatin capsules, added to recipes (preferable next to ingredients with high fat content), or used to make cannabutter or canna oil. And because it retains all the THC of the original material as well as the other cannabinoids, it is quite powerful...
Now, as for how to use the decarboxylated cannibus...should I still simmer it with the Coconut Oil for 25 minutes before adding it to the brownie mix (isn't it technically already activated before that?)or can I just grind it into a powder and add it with the oil like any other spice?
I'm starting to prep now, I'd like to hear what the consensus is before I start the baking though...
222/+: Decarboxylation (Carboxyl groups removed, making weed more potent.
325-355: THC bonds to fat molecules
355-392: THC "boils" (vaporizes; avoid this temperature)
Finished the boiling...I'm hoping I did everything right; I had the jar in a pot with a couple of inches of water; I heated the water on between 2 and 4 (just enough so it was steaming little a small amount of bubbles in the pot, not a boil) and left it, stirring every 15 minutes, for just over 2 hours...
The only thing I'm not sure of was the heat; Was the oil supposed to simmer inside the jar? Because when I would do it straight in the pan I would get it at just above a simmer...
Anyway, the brownies will be done soon enough; I will test and let you know how it turned out:
