If you have soil that you want to use or reuse this method involves making a LAB serum, it very easy and has many uses.
This method can be used for:
1) cooking soil
This will speed up the process to three weeks and can be done indoors for all those who have winter or are apartment dwellers
2) conditioning problematic soil
If you have had soil born diseases the LAB will out compete soil pathogens
3) reamending previously used soil
First off make some LAB, there is a link to recipe at the bottom by @hyroot to make it. This is going to take a couple of weeks to make but it stores for 3-4 months in a cool dark place.
For the reusing soil with the reamendment method then add 20-30% of your original amendments. I would suggest going with organic amendments because they are much more forgiving and have more balance in nutrients. A soil test would help but not necessary if your soil recipe works. If its the first soil cook then add your amendments.
Take an empty tote, (make sure the tote has sturdy sides for the last step) and fill to about 50% full, let sit 24 hours to dechlorinate. Then take your soil put in a fabric pot and place in the tote, you might have to remove some water to prevent overflow. Make sure you still have about 20-30% of the tote volume so you can add 10% LAB, add that now. Put cover on the tote and optional step is seal it up with a black garbage bag. Put near or over a heat register for 3 weeks, if not near a heat source then leave for 4 weeks. Leave the LAB do its thing, it will out compete all the bad fungi and bacteria and break down the amendments. It won't stink, just a sweet earthy aroma. Don't leave for more than 4 weeks. Last step is lift the fabric pot of soil out of tote and place a couple of boards over top of the tote and set the fabric pot on top of boards to drain into tote. Plant new plants in fabric pot or transfer soil to a plastic pot and plant new plant. Save the runoff water, your going to use it to water your plants with it. Add another shot of LAB every three weeks until tote is empty.
To note if you continually use lab you shouldn't have to recondition soil as pathogens will be suppressed.
