Learning with photo plants. What basic/simple light can I use?

Evening everyone.

First, thanks to everyone that helped me in my other threads.

While it was a costly learning experience, I did harvest one plant for a 0.7 oz dry yield. Very low but quality was excellent.

While I am sticking with autos for a bit, I do want to learn photo side of the plants.

I do have a new bigger tent, but do not have funds for ample lighting yet. Going to continue with smaller tent and light for autos, but want to do 1 photo plant in big tent. It was a free seed from my order so i am willing to learn and try with her.

Main question: What is a simple light setup that will be ample for just one plant from seed to harvest?

Preferred if I can get from local hardware or walmart or even walmart.com, but under $50 is possible.

This will be a test setup, so may/may not be used in future.

on that budget I'd go craigslist and save up $125,, You can usually find a 400 to 600 watt HPS that would be perfect for you. Other wise daisy chain a bunch of cfl lights together. or get a used bathroom fixture and hang it horiszontal with some cfl grow bulbs in it(walmart/lowes). I'm telling you sell/trade do something to get a cheap MH/HPS off craigslist. Its worth the little extra for the yield. If $50 is the final answer then I'd at a last resort go with this.. vs. 2 in one fixture so you could spread them as the plant/s grow..

Yea I found a 24" Sunblaze t5 light on craig's list for $50, you can't beat that. The guy almost didn't wanna sell it to me cause he was moving to Washington state to grow.

I don't know man, your going to be highly disappointed if that is all your using. I use one of those to veg and... I don't think that thing would grow anything bigger than a raspberry sized nug.

Hahaha yea picking up some led's from a friend. Showing some some good deals on craig's list for a good simple/basic light in the $50 price range.

Can you not get a brand new 400w combo for like $130 from ebay? I know its above budget but its money well spent imo. My first grow in hydro was White Russian under a 400 and I got just under 400 grams. It was one of my more successful runs btw. I did veg under T5's 54w HO's.

I agree, more money spent in the beginning means less headaches and money spent trying to fix things.
