Leaves drying out at ends!!!!

Hi,

I have a couple lowriders that are about 11 days old and have dried out leaves, yellow patches, and a little bit of yellow tips on the edges (see pics). I am growing in a box... 82degrees, w/ (4) 27 watt daylight CFLs & (2) soft white CFLs. the CFLs have been a couple inches from the plants. The box is 3ft high, 2ft deep and 1.5 feet wide. The box is lined w/ a space blanket. The plants are in miracle grow potting soil..4"pots. I haven't been watering until the dirt is dry...about every 3or4 days. I added a solution of standard miracle grow yesterday (1/2 tablespoon for about 1/2 a gallon). It almost seems like the leaves got burnt as some are all dried out! Am I underwatering??? Lights too close? They have been lit for 24 hours (lowriders) ...too much light?? Help!!!

Thats too much MG, you dont need much at all, especially at that size. Try a quarter spoon for a gallon, but once a week until its at least a foot. For right now you want to flush though, and dont add any more feed for the next week

You're Overfeeding these babies, way too young to be giving them this much food, plus they're in miracle grow potting soil which probably already has nutrients in the soil.... the extreme dark green of your leaves is the over abundance of nitrogen in the food, and what looks like the tips of the leaves are burning is exactly that, the fertilizer is burning them and if you don't FLUSH the soil with about 2 gallons of water to get all the ferts out you may have a bigger problem. The leaves will continue to "dry out" until the entire leaf crumbles up like it's dry. These babies don't need food this young unless you're watering and notice obvious nutrient deficiencies, also... when you start feeding your babies, if it says 1 tablespoon per gallon of water, you should start with about 1/4 tablespoon per gallon and work your way up gradually, you'll find with this plant and other that a plant will bounce back faster from lack of food than it will from overfeeding. sometimes if you overfeed the plant will stress and lockout nutes and then the problem is compounded even more. flush these babies and they should be fine! If you have a local nursery go there and get regular potting soil or planting mix with no nutes, this way you have total control over exactly what type of food she's getting and how much. goodluck with the grow and steer clear of miracle grow, it will bite you in the ass!

Up above it states to use two gallons of water and to flush then let dry out and water normally. good Luck

I have used MG in the past and 1/2 tablespoon per half gallon is waaaaaaaay too much for a normal healthy plant let alone a baby like that. Mj usually likes frequent feedings of dilute nutes (1/4-1/2 strength). Always alternate feeds to prevent salt buildup. Best of luck my friend.

My plants are presenting the same physical symptoms. They also have deep veins and feel like paper, correct? I am guessing either light shock or too much Mg for my ladies. Not sure though.
