I just got 2 new 400watt led lights today. New to this and I was wondering what distance should I have my lights from canopy? And does the 12/12 and 18/6 need different distances?

6" should be safe for almost any LED of that size. If it uses 3w LEDs or less you can get to about 2-3". No difference with flower or veg light cycle. Tell us the specific light if you want specific answers though.

3w chips, so try to stay >3" and you will be fine, if you run out of space you will be ok to let them get to as close as 1.5-2"
BTW, that isn't really 400w, more like 260w, they are using the full spec of the chips when they are most likely powering at 2/3rds.
