LED's to Replace Two 600w

Friend is currently running a grow 140cm x 60cm using two 600w sodium bulbs.

He wants to swap to LED to save money.

I run a smal grow (60cm x 60cm) with 4 cbx3590 cree LED's so a solution similar to them would be great - these were source from Cutter AU.

I'm in the UK but will happily consider any site that will do international deliveries.

Your mate runs 1200w of hps in a 140cm x 60cm space? Whats is wrong with him? That's crazy...

Think I would be looking at the custom build section.

140cm x 60cm is a rare size, I take it its not a tent.

Edit, for good coverage he probably wants about 320w ish. That's some serious saving from 1200w

Got him to revise his grow size... It's off to the side of one large tent, as he needs to "work" in it too. He reckons the size is about 100cm x 180cm.

He wants to go to LED mainly from a heat point of view - 1200w of HT lights kick off some heat.

Considering a kit like this;

http://www.cutter.com.au/proddetail.php?prod=cut3373

With 10 COB light engines I'd either build two 5 COB light bars or two squares of 4 with a central COB.

I'll source the Meanwell drivers locally.

Looking like £488 plus 20% tax and shipping then. There are better COB options than those cree these days, or at least options equal to but not as expensive. Then there are strips which work out cheaper and can be more efficient.

2 of these would beat that in price and performance and its local so no tax and free delivery.

I have nothing against cutter, great guys and very competitive price wise. Creating some good stuff too like solskin ect.
But them heatsinks are weighty and that means expensive to ship from Aus.

Then there's the fact that v2 Qb boards are more efficient and you need a beast of a driver or two for them cobs in your link which is going to add another chunk of cash.

If your happy building maybe check out LED gardeners strip build section.

I'd do 3 fixtures with the 560mm long strips and 185 or 240 watt Meanwell drivers. DIY or buy from https://www.diyleduk.co.uk/. The overall length could be held to about 590mm and hung end to end to fit in a 180cm long area. The overall fixture length could be held to 560, but would be a little more work. Three fixtures is easier to handle and would give more flexibility in the future.

I can source everything I need in the UK now, or from european warehouses. The only thing I'm having trouble finding is the 1" wide heatsink bar, well, any heatsink bar... :| Any ideas?
I think you can use simple U channel but might be worth asking @diyled if he sells what he uses on his builds seperatly.
I use quatum boards and cobs, so not had to look for aluminium profile for strips, but i know i really struggled to get my pin heat sinks for my cob build. I ended up going the china route, but there has to be better options locally, im just not familair with the best places.

I went for active heating on my small 4x COB grow. I've got to admit some of the heat sinking on the project seem excessive - 56' of 1" heatsink will dissipate A LOT of heat...!

Just had a look on diyled - he's using U channel - so no problem there :)
