Less plants, more yield?

I have a small 7 sq foot grow space where I was able to cram in 6 plants, but they sort of grow on top of each other a little...they're in 3 gallon and 5 gallon smart pots.

I'm in the flowering stage now (it's my first grow), and I'm already thinking of the next one and I'm thinking of doing 2-4 really big plants instead of 6 smaller ones. What do you think?

I like having space in the tent for a rotating fan and my humidifier (really dry here).

I've been packing in as many plants as possible for too long. This grow is going to have a large yield due to a lot of light - 6.8K which is helping to penetrate the madness... Next grow is going down to about 16 large plants instead of the current 38 mad house...

I have always hated it when it gets so crowded that everywhere I walk I can smell all the trichomes that are being wasted from me brushing up against them...

It depends a lot on the strain. Big bushy sativa, about two will fit. Full size shorter indica. Four will fit.

Then you have strains that tend not to grow lateral branches. Sea of Green favorites. Then 6 will fit. One gallon pots, 8 plants...

The big bushy plants don't get light to lower branches for shit. Air circulation sucks around the bottoms.

All I can say is try the big plants. Might be your style. As for finish weight. That's a guess depending on your level of Green thumb.

I just harvested a topped and trained indica that filled up and an entire 3x3 tent by herself. Just depends on what techniques you want to employ. Your ideal plant count would differ significantly if you were running SOG versus ScROG for exapmle. More info about your prefered growing style, your lights, and the medium you grow in would helpful in advising you.

Right now I've used LST techniques and super cropping to get the flattest shape possible....some of the plants have a nice flat canopy, others I didn't succeed as well.

It's a Lighthouse Hydro Hydroponics Grow Tent, 32 by 32 by 60-Inch tent I fit about 6 plants. I started with a 400watt lamp and ballast but upgraded to 600 watt before I went to flower mode. Other than learning to master watering and nutrients it seems to be going pretty well.



You can see I jam a small humidifier and fan in there.

Less plants doesn't necessarily mean more yield, but what it does mean is a increase in your veg time.

Less plants will take longer to fill your veg space.

In any space you can only yield so much. So whether you do it with 4 plants or 1 youll likely only get about 4 to 6 ounces in 7 sq ft. The difference is in how long you veg for.

I that space i would veg 1 plant for a month then flip to flower. 4 to 6 ounces if you can grow okay.

If time is an issue and you dont mind a lot of little pots then do maybe 12 plants and dont veg at all. Go straight to flower and youll likely get the same 4 to 6 ounces.

Thats what i kinda wanna do... before i started my current 6 plant grow i was gonna do 12 different strains 12/12 from seed just so i could have some variety. My vote goes to more small plants with different strains.

So where would you find 12 different clones?

Ok definitely male. I still have 4 females now.

These are the two I pulled:




And a female for reference:



Lot more room in the grow tent now.



Bottom left is clone that never fully recovered and top right is one that recovered but has some yellow leaves I think a nutrient issue. The other two are the randoms that are both female and quite healthy in 100% coco.
