i wanted to start a single closet grow right now, what would i need?

apparently a cfl light bar?
some pots and soil
a small fan to circulate the head from the light
and foil paper as lining right?

im trying to keep it a function > form system.

Do a stand alone DWC bucket with a ScrOG. You will double your growth rate. Get a HID light also, cfl's suck.

hey there i will try and answer your question correctly not like the first and second people. damn i hate people that go round here dissing cfl's saying their shit, its not the cfl's that are shit my friends its you, i expect you used them for your first grow and it failed so you put the blame on the cfl's. its a fact that cfl's do not suck! they produce bud of the exact quality if not better than hps they just dont produce as much and for small personal growers they are perfect if used right so stop going round giving false info please :peace:

back to the question, first and most important things are seeds lol so you may want to add them to the list, i know some people do go straight ahead with DWC and hydro setups but i would advise going with soil in pots as a first grow so you get a good understanding of this plant, yes you get faster growth with hydro type setups but there is nothing wrong with growing in dirt :) as for lighting if you went with cfl's start of with a low wattage setup and as the plant progresses add more bulbs i wouldnt veg for no more than 3 weeks if going with cfl's of small wattage HID's.

As for dirt it depends where you are in the world im in the uk so dont get no fancy foxfarm stuff and dont forget that you will need and intake and exhaust as you will need fresh air you can get away with just a good exhaust and a passive intake. instead of foil and if you cant get any mylar i would just go with flat white paint it works just as good.

hope this helps

Cfls do suck. You would need way more cfls to produce the bud any hps can produce. The only reason why they are used because it is cheap and easy to get lighting all around the plant.
But you would need way over 400 watts of cfl to even compare to what a 400 hps can do.

they just dont produce as much
I did not mention once that cfl watts compare to hps watts did i and yes i know it would take over 1000 cfl watts to compare to 400w hid if not more, like i said above "they just dont produce as much" but they do produce bud of just the same quality. so for some peoples situations they are perfect so they do not suck!! how can something that grows cannabis suck?

EDIT: and yes i do grow with hps and have used cfl's in the past just made the switch to hps because i dont have any problems with heat and find it easier to use due to now moving bulbs all the time

A incandescent bulb a halogen bulb both can grow cannabis and they suck.I didnt say you mentioned anything about watts im putting out there so it would be no confusion.

yea ive seen that DWC method but not sure if im ready for that yet. like i said i dont mind some good soils pottery and light bars in my closet. so basically im just lininng up my closet with mylar, mouting some low wattage cfl's and have a my pottery sitting in a tray to catch teh water? i dont want to take hte plants outdoor since i think the weather will start cooling off soon. i also have the closet space to let it go a few feet and just maintain it that way.

SAME quality + WAY LESS quantity = SHITTY LIGHTS! CFL's blow, I'm not spreading false information. It's a well known fact that CFL's come nowhere close to HID even watt for watt. Get YOUR info straight dude.

Just so you know ahead of time vradd you will have stretched out plants with very minimal yields if you go with LOW watt CFL's.

ok so cfl is out hps is in...

a 400w bulb will do me fine for 1-3 plants? and i can go the same soil method

A 400 will be more than enough for 1-3 plants.Just make sure you can control heat and you would be fine.Yes you can use the same soil method.

Yes a 400w would be perfect for 3 plants. And yes soil is fine, especially for new growers. I would recommend a fox farm soil. I've used their Ocean Forest with good results.

edit- damn, beat me to it wyte lol

ok guys ive had a bad day at work and need to smoke more ganj lol but i guess you are all big growers and dont grow small plants just to keep yourself smoking for free? everyone has their own opinions :) have a good day guys and smoke a fat one lol :peace:

Tam I know what you're saying but this guy has a whole closet and wants to do multiple plants. With the amount of money he would spend on CFL's he could get a 400w ebay kit and get double the growth rate and more harvest weight. I've seen PC stealth grows with CFL's that were great and party cup grows, but not good enough for a closet with multiple plants. That's all my point was. Maybe I should have explained better....

you will get a bigger yield if you use a 400watt light. but if stealth is a problem then you should go with cfls. The 400 watt will need cooling if it is in a closet, you will need to purchase a cooltube or a light hood to blow air through the light. You will also need a inline fan for this or a duct booster. You can use a 400 watt without a hood but your temps in the house need to be no higher than 75 degrees and you will need to make sure there are fans "swapping" out the air in the closet.

Cfls will be much easier to learn with but is not as efficient as hid lighting. I would recommend you try with cfls the first time then upgrade to hid on your second grow. Then you can take the old cfls from your first grow and create a separate veg/clone are. So when once crop is done the other one is ready to go in.

FYI: i grow with 2000 watts of HID, and i use cfl and t5's for vegging clones and moms.

if you think a cfl compares with a HPS your out of your fucken mind. and no I didnt use a cfl for my first grow I have more sense than that.

to put in my 2 bits. i like using a dwc. the idea of growing in water captures my mind. stimulates my brain so to speak. also it find it much easier to pure my buckets down the drain than to dump bucket after bucket out in the yard. i am not sure if growing in water over dirt is any faster. honestly. and as far as lighting goes you have 4to 6 weeks before you need to get any kind of hps type of lighting. i am assuming there is a budget involved and it always a small one to start. so 5 gallon buckets are easily found for free and you can go to your local grow store and many of them have samples they will give you to get you started last for a few weeks for you to save up to get everything else later on. if you have the room i feel t-8 flouresent lighting works just as well when vegging. a shop light is just 10 bucket at he local hareware store and 1 day white and 1 cool white does the trick. with some string you can easily adjust the lights and wont have to worry about mounting cfl's every other day.just my thoughts but i found a guy on youtube who showed a very effective way of growing this way.hope this link works it is very informative http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-oYJs1FtQ4
