light distance

im using an hps 1000. how far away from the plant should it be without burning my plants!!!!!!????

hi 2legit,
I have a hps1000 and i keep it about 16-20 inches from the canopy and that seems ok. My light is air cooled, so if yours isn't, you might go a bit higher.

the rule of thumb is - "hold your hand under the light, and if you don't feel discomfort, then neither will your plant." This might work for some, but my plant's were getting burned even though i thought it was ok.

the closer the better, just not too close.....

That should be fine. I also use the 1000 watter. so 4 ft would be fine. I would get a shop light at menards and use that for them for 2 weeks. then the big light.

I agree. 1000 watts at 4 feet away is kind of a waste of electricity...

I didn't know we were talking about seedlings. I keep all of my little ones under florescent till there about 8" to a foot, but i've also had great results with just the 1000hps, just a little more spendy.
