Light Movers

I experimented in 92, and bought a crappy little light mover, which would slowly move the lights back and forth. Do they still make these, and are they any better.

I've seen them on Ebay pretty cheap. I'm not sure what the benefit would be. I guess maybe you could keep the lights closer to the plants since they are passing by and not steady on them and maybe since they are closer for the time they are over you are getting more lumens so you could grow more plants. Hmmm.

I bought a nice one for $250. Wasn't impressed. Maybe if it only moved my light back and forth 2' it would have worked better.

i have never used one or even seen one in person. i thought they had adjustable limits so you can set the distance of travel to how ever far you wanted.

There are 3 or 4 companies that make light movers. They can be expensive ones all the way to el-cheapo units.
I personally use the inexpensive units as manufactured by Hydro Farm (most all grow shops sell Hydro Farm stuff) made from by-pass door hardware (head track) with a high torque, low RPM motor. includes everything to mount them. The advantage I have found is two fold: 1) you can move the reflector a bit closer (+/- 6" to 8") to the plants and,
2) The footprint of the reflector changes in that a 4' track will cover a 6' footprint. In summary, I get more even coverage and let one reflector cover more plants for the same electricity. A fixed reflector will have its' radiation of might diminished as you get further from the bulb.

Remember, a moving source of light in a room means no shade. More light for plant.

Find one with adjustable stops and just let it move back and forth 6" or so and a little delay on the ends.

Light movers are awesome. I use Light Rail movers, the 3.5 and the 5.0 models.
