Lighting Questions

I am planning on using a 400W HPS light for an 8x8 box I have constructed, it produces 50,000 lumens. I am going to hook it up to a solar panel out side of my house and am trying to figure out what kind of panel I will need. The panels go from 5 watt up to 1800 watt (with a HUGE price difference). The best prices panels I have found were 30W. Do I need to find a 500W panel to power my light? Or can a I use a couple of 30W ones? Any electrical help will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for my obvious lack of electrical expertise.

your gonna have a hard time with this one without electrical expertise. Solar panel's do not just power a light, they send power to a battery which then becomes your power source.

I have an adapter that attaches to the battery like a power bar so I can use normal household plugs.

I'm assuming that when they say 500w that is under ideal conditions so you will never really see it. I doubt that a 500w panel will do it. I also can't imagine it being cost-effective. Why not just plug it in?

ps 400w isn't nearly enough for an 8x8 grow space.
