Lighting Times, 18 vs. 20 vs. 24

I see lots of variations people are using during the vegetation period ranging from 18 to full 24.

Is turning off the lights for a few hours purely to save electricity, or is there some theory of diminishing returns after a certain max number of hours?

If money or detection is no object, is 24 the way to go, no brainer?

Answer me or not here, we all know you know the answer. Just give it up and make it easier on yourself.

Thanks in advance

i believe the plants need a resting period from the light as they would in nature ,i have allso read in a few places that plants can only photosynthesise sp? for upto 18 hours a day .

i wouldnt say it was bs ,it makes sense to me ,all we are doing is trying to create out doors indoors and in the out doors the plants have a dark period so to me it makes sense to have a dark period when we grow indoors,

I have used 24 hours a day for veg stage for a long time...I have employed this technique on plants that are outside for natural light cycle and then brought inside after sunset to keep on growing. I use it on 100% of my indoor plants.
I tried 18/6 and went right back to 24/day.
This has worked very well for countless crops.
I will never go to 18/6!
But it boils down to personal subjective experience.
I am a 24 hour guy.

Yes Well 27 Hour days are great you either get used to them or have a psychotic break. Can you tell which one? I run 18/6 cause it seems to be the consensus. AND I read alot (ALOT) about everything I can get my eyes on. to steal a cool line 'I multitask better than most people breathe' ADHD is not without its' benefits. The ALOT I have read about Growing (400 some odd Hours) says plants need to rest as well. 6 hours seems a good amount. If what I have read is right. A plant can only use the energy it has for 18 hours, after that it needs to rest and replenish.

18/6 if it is seedlings... 24 hours of light for clones untill you put em in dirt.. after roots have grown... then after you have em in dirt keep em under the fluro's untill they outgrow the small pot there in and then 18/6 untill 12/12 florweing

If you are growing an auto, is 24 hour light a good idea during flowering or at least wouldn't hurt the plant? Thanks:leaf:

i was using 24 hours for around 2 and a half weeks. i then got convinced to change my lighting to 20/4 its made a huge difference. plants need rest.

the reason y u have to turn the light of at night is because the plants produce there buds at night when u turn the light of the plants use the food they create threw the light to make there buds, if the light is always on the plant just continues making food for the plant but cant focus on producing the buds
