Budologist420 Well-Known Member Jul 16, 2011 #2 i have ran a 600 watt bulb in a 1000 watt ballast and it was fine. mind you i didnt buy this equipment it was given to me. i would definetly not recomment using a bulb with more watts than the ballast is built to handle. you could start a fire or wreck your bulb and ballast.

reverof Active Member Jul 17, 2011 #4 You can put a lower watt bulb in a higher watt ballast, but it does not work with a higher bulb than ballast. granted puting lower watt bulb in higher ballast normally shortens life of the bulb.
