Lights, Fans, Etc.

A friend of mine is giving me a few clones from the super silver haze strain. I'm planning on making a microgrow box about 2.5ft wide, 3.5 ft tall and 1.75 ft deep. Just curious as to the best lights and fans to buy for the box. I'm hoping to get some for relatively inexpensive, but not completely shitty. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Depends on how you cool it. I'd say any bigger than a 250 hps and you probably couldn't cool it. A couple 150 Hps for sure.

Did you see the dimensions of his box? There is no way you are going to put in 2 HPS in there. That would require duct work, fans and 2 HPS lights, which would run about $400+.

Your box will not be big enough for your plants. One plant alone will fill that box before you get to flower.
Im a CFL grower. I have found that you are better off with lots of lower wattage lights than fewer higher wattage lights because of heat and light distribution, plus if one light goes, you have more that are still on.

If you go CFL i suggest clamp lights. They can be moved around easily and if you get the kind where you can remove the clamp and reflector, you can use them for hanging lights.

You know about light color temperatures and photoperiods for the stages of the plant right?

I use a 400w HPS in a 3' by 2' area and it works great

Here's my old 2.5 x 5 flowering space. 17 girls. Pack as many as you can or fill the entire canopy area for best results.

yeah, I'd have to agree that ANY HID won't work unless you cut out the top of the box and use a sheet of glass so most of the heat stays out. You need 6-12" for the light and another 6-12" to keep from getting the crispies....also with that strain...you're probably going to want to go straight into 12/12 light cycle or it'll likely outgrow the box......
I would usually advise HIDs over cfls, but in this case you may have no choice.......... look at htgsupply.com before you decide...they have the best prices I've seen on HIDs, so if you want to cut the hole, install the glass and use a 250hps.....you can for not too much money..... I got 2 400w hps for under $300 total where the hydro shop would cost more for a single light.....

If you have the money led grow lights would be the best and some computer fans would be the best fans to use they are easy to change to something that plugs in, quiet, super high rpm 10000+ and don't take up space. But if you want cheap cfl and florecent t5 combos
