Lights for Veg and Flower

Hi there

I'v had a look around the forum and read a lot of the info on lights. One thing I'm not sure of though...
The info says you need blue specrum lights for the veg state and red spectrum for the Flowering. But can you get away with using red specrum for the veg state aswell?
It's my first grow and if I can just use one kind of light I won't have to fork out so much first time out.

Thanks
Burf

you can use all red for the grow or all blue or a mix its up to you.the plant will respond better to blue light in veg and red in flower....

what strain you gonna grow??

Go with HPS(red) if you're going to use just one type, because the red is what you need to get maximum yield while in bloom. They will grow a little slower in veg, so you might have to veg them an extra week or so, but you'll be happy you went with the red when you harvest. Definitely red.

I just tested the HPS(red) against my MH(blue) in veg, with two 400 watt systems side by side, with half the plants under one, and half the plants under the other. They were all under MH until 4 days ago, and i switched one bulb to HPS to see if there was a difference. After those 4 days, they plants under the MH passed the others up by at least an inch, maybe 2, and the difference was clear. Blue is definitely the way to go for veg. But, if you have to go with only one, go with red, because that where the yield is at.

Yeah, me too. After hearing over and over that MH was the way to go, I was dying to know how much difference it would make, so i had to try it for myself. Maybe tomorrow when i get up and moving, I'll post a thread explaining the test, so other members can hear it too. People likey proof, especially me.LOL
