How many plants do you intend to grow under this 400w?

I personally use a 600w simply because it is the best for lumens versus cost to run.

also switching from Flouros to HID you are going to have to deal with alot more heat than normal.
So you are going to have to look at INLINE FANS and filters etc.

I was thinking maybe 2-3 since my grow tent is kinda cramped. I already have good circulation and ventilation. My inline fan is always on the lowest setting because it is way to powerful for my tent. I also have my air conditioner connected to my duct fan. So I can pretty much keep the temp at any degrees i want.

This is the grow tent I have right now. I was thinking of getting a bigger one though to fit more plants.

thanks for any advice. This will be my first photo period grow, my other grow was an autoflowering strain.

I don't think you'd want more than 400w for that unless you want to put a bit into venting and cooling

I have a 4x4 room w/1000w hps. All I do is leave my door to my grow box open when lights come on and have a standing fan blowing at my light witch is always 6 feet high. No special venting or Duct work.I can fit 12 plants in there in 3 gallon pots and grow monsters with this very simple soil grow. The heat will be a factor but it wont counter the fact the more lumens the better.

A 400 watt is all you need for personal use you can get at leat 4 oz every month.Get you growing down packed and it will improve yeild. You want to start a indoor op go with a 600 or 1000.

I switched from T5 HOFLs to 400w HPS. I have both the veg and flower lights for my T5 setup so I use the T5 for veg and the HPS for flower. My flower room is ~5'x5'x5'. When the lights are on I open the light curtain so it shares more air with my veg area. My temps go up to 83*F some days.

You can use a 250 watt hps along with lst or scrog to achieve big yields for less electricity; there are many people on this site that have done so. I currently am running a 250 watt light, and I have 3 plants under it right now, 2 larger and 1 smaller. I also have an inline filter on the end of the light tube and vented through an inline fan, and I also have a window AC unit running on low. My temps in my grow cab are between 78-84* all the time, and I have my light sitting right on top of my plants and no problems. My next run is going to be my first attempt at a scrog. For right now I just wanted to get some flowered so I have some bud to smoke lol.

Sometimes I kinda wish I went with a 400 watter, but I'm only growing bud for my wife and I and therefore don't need to grow a gazillion plants at one time. So for me, a 250 watt light is plenty. It all depends what your goals are.

Any Watt Hps is so worth it over Cfls. I too keep Cfls in my veg room but nothing compares to a mini sun hps for flowering. I wish more expert growers on here would tell the new guys to stop flowering w/Cfls.
