CFL or HID/HPS. Main concerns with HPS are ventilation and temperature control, secondly electricity depending on wattage of light ect. For 9 plants you'll really want to think about how much of a budget you got to spend on lights and ventilation. You can get 600w HPS, don't know how much lumens you can get per plant with 9 under a 600w. Starting first grow with 9 plants is a bit much, don't you think?

HPS/MH setups come relatively cheap for the inexpensive brands; however if your planning on using a 400w-600w or more in a room with ambient temps of already 75-80, you'll need air conditioner window mounted, 100$ for 5,000 btu. Cheap grow light, inexpensive brand, cheap air conditioner. This could be area dependent, as some places are pretty cold year around and can vent just as cool air in as a air conditioner can if not better.

Whats your real budget your looking at tbh, if no budget I'd try to focus on growing 1-2 plants for now with cfls, or perhaps get a 150w hps for few plants. If you want to go 100$ ac, and 120-130$ for 600w you could have sufficient lighting for a decent grow, restricted basically by ventilation, and grow space for plants (height ect).

No budget, its probably going to be just a bunch of CFL lights, some veg n flower spectrum, and some cords/Y adapters ect to hang them in over whatever you can afford to grow out of the started seedlings.

this is great advice, but without knowing more about ur setup and budget its hard to recommend equipment

I actually was just messin around when I started this little venture I wasn't thinking I could actually get them to grow. I can't keep a cactus alive. So now I've replanted 9 of my favorites and gave a few to some freinds. And they have actual green in their thumbs and the ones they have are rockin. They say its my light, they arnt getting enough. I'm in a area that has a good source of grow stores I'm just not one to walk in and question. I'd rather go in like I know what I'm talkin about.

For a small grow I personally would sugest T5 fluorescent fixture, not too expensive and low on elct.

idk what your goal is ? but most people use t5 florescent, it works good, lot or pro growers use t5 florescent . or if you want the best money will buy, growth will be insanely fast, saves a month or more combined with co2 with veg, its horitlux 7200 k metal halide its blue hue , to grow plants fast ! huge ! not unheard of making the plants 5 feet tall in veg. or you could use a regular mh , don't waste your money, hardly and difference then t5 growth speed bit faster but more stretch, leds are an option. plants look mushy to me, over priced, ither way, expect to spend from 50 to 500 on a veg light, just depending on your goal,

4 t5 lights for veg.... and 400w with an eye blue bulb for bloom. Perfect for personal. Put 2 in every 3 weeks. Sell one plant an smoke the other.

I wouldnt t5 for bloom unless u have 8 t5s per plant. Get a 600 or atleast a 400. An get a fan an a tent. Veg with ts in closet or even a tub. And tent for bloom so u can put near ac outlet n pump cool air in with a press of a button. I mean i think that you would be happy with that. Go big with materials if u love ur budz. Prolly an extra 50$ in elec a month. Tent 100$. Fan 100$. Light 200$. Blue eye bulb " awsome bulb!" 80$. T5s 10$ a pop. Nutes 40$. And u are only going to be paying extra 50$ in elec for all the buds u can smoke.!
