What are these little gnats doing.Are they dangerous to my plants.

No pics but probably fungus gnats...research mosquito dunks for a soil drench.

Yes, their larvae destroy young roots.

The pertinent question is why are they present? Stagnant, wet, damp, decomposing organic matter are conditions that attract pests.
