Hi all,

First thread so be nice

Smoking the past 23 years and never got around to making my own grow setup, embarrassing I know lol, mainly because of the area I live is a shithole and police chopper flies above more often then you or I skin up

.
Anyway this winter I decided to bite the bullet and jump into the loft to figure out a space to try set something up,
I purchased a 600w full spectrum led grow light, a shitload of autoflower strains to keep height to a low

Royal Gorilla Auto
Royal Dwarf
Quick One
Royal Cheese auto

This is my best available space
Its roughly 175cm(h) x 170cm(h) x 120 cm(d) or 1.7m x 1.6m x 1.15m

The idea would be to lay a floor, plywood the outside of the frame and insulate it with loft insulation, then cover the inside walls with my reflective material.

Because of the 'room' location, its easy to run and air feed straight from under the even of my house, I plan on adding an intake fan if necessary?

Next is onto the insulation, I bought 4 rolls of Diall loft insulation and started with the back wall, then onto the right hand side where I currently stand...

Now a question for you guys, I know the inside should be painted flat white, or lined with mylar or white Polythene sheeting, but Ive picked up two rolls of thermal bubble insulation from my local DIY cheap enough, would it be any use to line the walls with this instead? Im not sure of its reflective properties but im sure it would keep the temps up and down when needed and keep heat from inside the room from escaping so the eye in the sky can detect?
If its no use for inside the room, il find another use for it possibly wrapping the outside of the room in it.
But its a question Id love answered properly, cant seem to find any information online

Ive bought a 4 Inch Hanley extractor fan and Carbon filter which runs at 100cmh but to be honest I dont think that fan will be strong enough with the grow space and a 600w Led light going in there,
I plan on venting the hot air back into one of the bedrooms or boiler room below to help with keeping the chopper off my tail.

Thats about as far as I have got so far, still trying to work out my front / door etc, the water tank in the attic should be able to supply me with my fresh water and electricity Im going to run an extension cable through one of the ceilings connected to another surge protected extension with built in usb socket for 2 small fans inside the grow room.
Maximum 3 plugs in total.

Any suggestions or opinions are welcomed as Ive already sank what seems like a fortune into setup and this is my first time with an indoor grow, last year I had some successful strains growing outdoors so I believe if I can master this little room, I should have a successful indoor grow to match

Also have I made enough provision to keep heat etc to a minimum to avoid unwanted visits at 5am from my local police station?

Im going to keep this thread updated as much as possible, cheers guys, peace out.

Typical attic installation of a radiant heat barrier requires an air space between the roof and the barrier, like stapling it onto the bottom of the trusses to the left of your room. I am not sure if it would be capable of blocking an IR signature or not, especially when it is in contact with the walls.

Hi Raratt and thanks for the quick reply!

So the back wall of the grow room has a 4 inch gap behind it, the boards are being pegged up to allow a gap between the room and the wall.
The only point at which the grow room meets the roof of the house is at its apex, i am thinking of also insulating the roof above the grow room, this is still leaving space outside if you get me?

Im hoping with the extra roof insulation above the triangle room, with the inulation between the walls of the room and the thermal insulation either inside or out will be enough to keep Ir from spotting me :)

Using an LED fixture greatly reduces the IR signature, if you were using a HPS or Metal Halide I would be more concerned. I am using 4' T8 LED bulbs, and they hardly put out any heat depending on the type. The full spectrum ones I have do put out some heat. There will still be a heat signature from the rooms below so the insulation might make it look like the rest of the attic, but who knows.

You could also drop the ceiling down a little at the apex, insulate the roof, and leave an air gap above it so the attic air can circulate above it.

Yeah thats what Im hoping, that the led light and the extra insulation might just keep heat the heat signature down and with the grow room being insulated with the same loft insulation there has to be some hope lol
Hopefully with it being ducted into a bedroom it will help too, no hot air escaping under the eves of the house showing up a signal.

Once the whole thing is built i plan on putting a beam running along the Apex so i can attach my light and carbon filter to, above that i will have it insulated.
Above the room at the Apex i plan on running some loft insulation down along the roof linging still leaving a gap of a couple of inches between the apex of the grow room and the house itself,

Il update with some more pics tomorrow :)

Raratt is that Thermal insulation usable inside the grow room as my reflective walls do you know?

Thanks again for the input

Everyone typically uses mylar for reflecting back light. I haven't been able to afford some yet (not really that expensive though) so I just used some white paint I had leftover from another project. I guess it would be more reflective than paint, but I am not an expert. Personally I think I would take it back and buy mylar, probably cheaper also.
