I did mine in three smaller trims, you do not want to trim too hardcore or it will set your plants back anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
I would recommend doing a solid trim of all the undergrowth a few days to a week before switching to flower, then doing another good trim a few weeks after switching to flower
and one lighter, final trim about halfway - 3/4 through flower. This way your plants are not suffering from too much one giant trim sesh. The final trim is not really even necessary, but I do it to allow a little more light to the lower bud sites in my scrog, and also allows for better air movement between flowers.
The last three weeks of flower are the most important in my opinion, the buds are really putting on weight and getting juicy, so i like to make sure everything is optimal (light/air/water) for this period, which is why I do the final, 3rd, small trim session towards the end.
