Hey, i've been reading a little bit although i can't understand quite a bit which i hope i will come to learn after experience and tips from others. Anyway i was planning to grow about 5 plants to start with and get.. i think it was 1/2 g/watt or beginners?
Budget :(((( : $300 AUD which is about 290 USD atm
If i had:
$155 for:{1 x Growlush 400w HPS - 62,000 lumens
{ 1 x 400w Growlush Ballast
{1 x 400w Growlush Reflector
$ 37 1 x Grow Light Timer U8
+ Soil $?? + Water (free) +
Pots about $10?

= $98 left for anything else i have to have

The grow room area is under house, the space is very large but its not excavated and is connected into bits. The area i chose (which has a air way connection to the rest of the under-house) is about 2m (20ft²) high, 1.5m squared (16ft²).
I will cover walls and floor of this area, in a corner with aluminum foil haha lol maybe denser less breakage foil. I will make a box with wood frames to close the box area.

I don't want to make it loud at all as parents won't pay for uni/college if i get caught most likely. Floor boards are just above the area (hence under of house) :S gayy i know!!!!

* Does 400W HPS mean i could get 200g (.4 pounds) per plant as a beginner?
* How long would that take to get (3 months?...)
* What to do about the smell?

P.s. I'm Australian lol

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! :D

dude your expectations are quite high on your yields, i would concentrate more on having a successful crop then worry about how much you will yield first..

Sorry didn't notice that you said a quarter lb. Thats more of a possibility and if your under a house your gonna run into alot of problems

I don't know what the cultivation laws of Australia are, but I can tell you its not a good idea to grow weed in your parents house. not without their permission anyways.. that's how I did it but my parents are stoners..

lol i realise that but they'd never say yes, so anyways how could i go around the smell/sound/heat + anything else i may need for around $100? Since theres only one light and a fairly large area i would think i wouldn't need pipes and fans would i? or is what i have already cool, quiet and not very smelly? Sorry i just want to know what i am doing before i do it :))

Well i'm only just learning how to grow mate, i know i can use a carbon filter or an ozone generator but their 200+ I just don't want to buy everything to find out the smell invades the whole house and i have to stop, bye bye $300. I'm just looking for a bit of help or suggestions to point me in the right direction, and the reason the budget is so low is i ain't the richest guy around.

p.s. just so you know i was going to use the strand White Widow - already got seeds from friend who has buggered off on year gap to france ... or somewhere -.- lol

Hey all the way down under...
Like your resarch, but for your first grow try not to focus on yeild and focus on gettin the plants through the flower stage.
Soil wise, as long as the soil is sterile you can use it, I advice buying the soil, as aussie soil is quite clayie(?) if i can remember right. if you buy soil buy prelite,or somthing like that, to increase air-e-ation in the soil, also it helps make your soil go further. Water, remeber to let it sit for 24hrs or boil then cool to remove most the impurites and most the cholrine. Auzzie mains water is quite cholrinated is it??
To deal with smell, either ferment somthing down there, that covers my smell, make room smell like brewery,, or insure good ventalions where the air can be moved, intaken at one end, and maybe vented at the rear of the house.
You will easily have enough lumens with that light setup. Remeber also the better the seed the better the crop. as a genral rule.
Also I take it you are askin how long it would take to get? as in grow seed to crop??? well say 4 weeks veg, then 40days(depending on strain, indica shorter bloom, satvia blooms longer(depends,sunk1 45-50days and that satvia dom,) flower, it depend how much space you have to work with.

Hope that helps abit ,

Take it easy..

You can start to flower the plants as soon as sex is shown, small branch like bits coming out of the nodes. You will see what I mean.

you will wanna do as much reading as possible and make sure you plant at least 4-5 seeds cause you might run into problems or the sometimes dredded male. Good luck and always keep gardening...
