Hi,
I always use Ecoplus pumps. Submersible or course and cheap. Just get the small one 165 gph. That one is pretty quiet. The bigger ones start very vigorously and do make more noise.

I used ecoplus for a while and was constantly changing pumps because of failure. Others have told me they've never had issues with them but I've tossed close to a dozen bad pumps before I switched to something reliable. They did work great for rdwc with no issues (they where constantly running) but as soon as I switched to flood and drain and had them cycling on and of they starting failing, at least one a week would need replaced (out of 3 trays). I switched to the Danner mag-drive 350 pumps and haven't had a pump failure since. I don't hear them running either, only the initial spray of water when it starts up, but I can feel the vibration when I touch the res, so if your noise issue is vibration related they might not work for you.

I just thought I'd describe my Ecoplus use in more detail. I used one for a 3x3 ebb and flow table flooding 4x daily x15 minutes. Pump lift was about 25". I started out with the 165gph but moved up to the next size, just because I wanted a faster flood. I used that pump for two years w/o failure. I had three Ecoplus pumps total and used them for various purposes. A big one (the 500) for res draining and refill and transfers in general. The little one I later used in a diy cloner.

I don't want to steer anyone wrong, but they've worked great for me...

Hi Wheely,
That looks like the one Talen recommended. You can buy replacement parts and actually repair it? Ecoplus, you just buy a new one I guess. I couldn't find where Ecoplus pumps are specifically rated for continuous duty but are advertised for aquarium and fountain use, as well as hydro. Not sure what the pound/dollar exchange rate is, but that Danner is much more expensive...like a factor of 10. Well, good luck with your decision. lol
Cheers,
JD

PS Maybe a dense foam pad under your res would help with noise and vibration.

I have 6 ecoplus times that I have had for over 4 years with no failures and they run 80 seconds on 8 minutes off constantly with no problems

why do you do it like this instead of constant on? is it to let the roots get air, and to preserve the pumps life?

its quite an expensive pump....
