Hey everybody I have a 2'x4'x5' grow tent with a 400w mh with a air cooled hood on it that is 6" , I also have a 190cfm blower........ Right now I have the blower pulling air from the tent thrugh carbon filter...then thrugh the hood then out the tent...... I want to make it so the hood is cooled by a second fan so that i can keep co2 in the tent.......there is a place on each side of the tent for 6" ducts to run thrugh the light also........... My question is what kind of fan could i use that would be strong enough to cool the 400w mh light, also can it mount to the tent and if anybody out there has a similar set-up I would like to see how it was acomplished......Thanks to all here at RIU!

Well, I would get a 300-400 CFM 6'' inline duct fan, I think the 196 is probably working too hard going through the can filter and the light.

You can certainly hook it up any way you see fit - I use plastic zip ties, duct tape harnesses and velcro tape (REAL "velcro," not the cheap shit. it doesn't work)

I have an elicent 6" I got for $140, pulls 309 cfm, is very powerful and VERY quiet.

if you are on a budget check out the 6'' inline duct fans at lowes, they are $20 and pull 205. An extra one of those pulling in cool air should help your other fan a lot.

if you are using co2 you also don't need the temps much below 80 - Co2 uptake is increased by the high ambient temps. metal halides aren't as hot as hps either (id say 5-10 degrees cooler)

Remember that heat rises so you will want to direct the fans in a way that makes sure the heat is moved away from the plants as much as possible.

A circulation fan will work better to help distribute the air evenly so that you can make sure the plants stay healthy and oxygenated without drying out.

This is also going to boost the growing.

Computer fans work really well to help cool things down as they are actually quiet, cheap, and reliable.

If you can find ball bearing fans, those are going to be the best. They last longer than other fans. Bushing fans, for example, are so much louder and when you're worried about someone finding your grow room, silence is golden.

To power them up, just use an AC/DC adapter.

You're probably going to need a few fans to cool down that wattage. See what happens with three and then increase them if the plants aren't seeming to cool down as well as you might want them to.:leaf:
