Looking into my first grow (need some help)

I think I'm going to do a indoor soil based grow not trying to get to fancy for my first grow. But which lights will work the best for it?

I was reading about the plants needing red and blue during different stages is there any all in one plant? If so where can I buy a cheap one.

Ive read posts all over the net of people saying ebay but how would I know which one and if it will really work? or is there a way I can make one from lowes/home depot? I'm not great with wiring so if some knew a way using these types of cords 12461.png it would be great.

i would say just invest in a 600w HPS light but you can use cfls just pay attention to the bulb temp vegging plants like cooler bulb temps flowering plants use warmer bulb temp but for a good all around spectrum use both at once
Color Temperature Chart

Color temperature is a description of the warmth or coolness of a light source. When a piece of metal is heated, the color of light it emits will change. This color begins as red in appearance and graduates to orange, yellow, white, and then blue-white to deeper colors of blue. The temperature of this metal is a physical measure in degrees Kelvin or absolute temperature. While lamps other than incandescent do not exactly mimic the output of this piece of metal, we utilize the correlated color temperature (or Kelvins) to describe the appearance of that light source as it relates to the appearance of the piece of metal (specifically a black body radiator).
By convention, yellow-red colors (like the flames of a fire) are considered warm, and blue-green colors (like light from an overcast sky) are considered cool. Confusingly, higher Kelvin temperatures (3600–5500 K) are what we consider cool and lower color temperatures (2700–3000 K) are considered warm. Cool light is preferred for visual tasks because it produces higher contrast than warm light. Warm light is preferred for living spaces because it is more flattering to skin tones and clothing. A color temperature of 2700–3600 K is generally recommended for most indoor general and task lighting applications. Color Temperature is not an indicator of lamp heat.

look around for more info on cfl temps hope this helped

Thanks for the reply/info is there a good place to buy a 600w HPS light that emits red and blue? I'm sure these questions have been asked a million times because Ive seen them all over a million times before.

also would the reflector hood that comes with most kits be enough? or will I have to get more lights and metal?

There are a few questions I have for you.....What size is the space you will be using for your grow? I agree and like a 600 watt lamp and know that you will have good results....IF....you have made all necessary provisions for your grow.....Micro climate is everything and thats the beauty of indoor growing.....you get to play god....because you control everything that goes on in that space....so your space....tell me about it....size etc

You'd want to grab something like the phillips SON-T AGRO hps lamp. They emit 30% more blue light than a standard
HPS bulb.

Well I have a full attic to put to good use I was only planning on using a section of it for about 4 - 6 plants if I can do that with one light. I'm not looking to spend a fortune just trying to grow some smoke-able bud. I'm working with a smaller budget so even if there was a few pieces @ lowes or home depot I could toss together that would be good as long as it doesn't involve me having to wire the sockets or do any welding.

(That equiptment is perfectly fine...in fact for a first time grow, its great.....BUT...Even having the best equiptment does not mean much if your grow room is not set up properly....600 watt light would have been fine...1000 watt obviously is better but again....its going to be all about the design of your grow room..ok.. A 1000 watt light is going to burn more power...it is also going to produce more heat......now there are many variables to this....first off...you say you plan on using an attic.....ok.....that might wk just fine in the winter months but if the area you live at gets hot in the summer.....that may present a problem because of excessive heat build up...Thats why I asked for specifics about your grow space. This is my advice to anyone who wants to or is planning a indoor grow.....before you spend a DIME on equiptment....( if you want to be successful ) The very first thing you need to do your home work on, is your SPACE.....Size of room, location of room, How am I going to provide electrical power for all the componets I will be using in my space ( you dont want to be overloading a electrical circut) and this is critical.....how will I vent my space and how will I provide fresh air to my space.... )

1000w m.h. bulb
florasun 1000w hps
xt1ac xtrasun ac relector
bac100a 1000w convertable xtrasun ballast
roots organic soil
I will give more details in a min

I apologize...I inserted my post within your post.....it is in brackets.....so again....Your space...how much head room is up in that attic...and please follow up with answers to my questions.....I am quite qualified in grow room set up....there are allot of things that people over look ...especially if they have little experience with electrical or mechanical ( Venting ) and so on....I tell you and anyone else who wants to grow indoor....I dont care what size your space is....that is where all YOUR PLANNING needs to start....your space will determine what light to use and it goes on from there.....Planning and design!
