Hello all. I tried to search for an answer for this but didn't have any luck.

I've been over the how to lst thread several times.

I even tried it before but i have a change that i was gonna try this time around and wanted to run it past you guys first.

The original lst diagram in the faq page shows the plant starting in the center, bending out to the edge and making a single circle before flowering. I am transplanting into my final pot tonight and i wanted to start it near the side of the pot so that i can spiral the plant inward as it grows, making two or three circles (depending on how it grows) instead of just 1. The only thing i am concerned about is weather or not the roots on the side nearest the edge of the pot will be stunted. Will they just grow out, around the pot, or will it compact some of the roots, stressing or even killing the plant.

I didn't spend much on the beans so i'm willing to try it but if someone knows better, please help.

If you water the pot on the side farthest from the main stem, then the roots will be forced to travel into the untapped soil to get the water and nutes. But you would have to keep the soil dry around the base of the stem, so water real slowly. Do this after the plant is established though, so water around the base for the first two weeks. Then later saturate the side away from the stem. After a two weeks of that you should be able to just saturate all of the soil evenly.


However a good watering cycle usually promotes expansive roots. Water like it rains, saturate the soil completely with some runoff, (this prevents salt buildup, remember the mayans), then let the soil dry well. Then repeat. I think its best to tell when to water when the pot is light. Once you get this down its really easy. Others like to just stick there finger in the soil and if its dry at your second knuckle its time to water. Hope this helps. Lamp
