Lumatek zeus 600w pro 2.9 vs 600w hps

Hi everyone, so I'm looking for some advice on whether to change to LED after using hps for the last year or so. My current setup is a 1.2x1.2x2.0m tent, 600w mh for veg and 600w hps for flowering, 15L 6 pot autoput feeding system and im pulling decent zips per grow, only thing is power cost so I've been looking into changing to LED and the system that keeps popping up is the lumatek zeus 600w Pro 2.9 but at £700ish is it worth the change yield wise or am I better sticking with good old HID.thanks for any replies in advance just looking to get the best for my cash either way

A 600W HPS is the perfect size for that tent. Power is expensive here too at over 30¢/kwh but I ran the numbers and I'd have to grow steady for about 10 years to recoup the money from buying an equivalent LED light and by then would need a new one if not before. $100 for a new Hortilux bulb every couple years isn't much and my growing is slowing as the freezer fills up with pot. Been at this since '78.

Most of the decent LED grows I've seen in years of forum watching use about the same wattage to get the same yields and my grow room is cool so what I'd save on power for the light would get eaten up by the heater keeping temps up. During the coldest months a single 600W HPS isn't enough to keep the room above 70F as it is and I like it at 75 - 80.

Do the math on your setup so you can make an educated choice.

If you have had good results with HPS, your yields probably won't change dramatically, imo.
They will improve, but what you'll notice is that your buds will get more density and ripen a little quicker.
At least that was my experience switching from HPS to LEDs.
On a sidenote: be prepared to compensate for the lower temperatures.

You can smile all you want bk, many people probably think just switching their lights will give them twice the yield.
That's nowhere near certain.

I average about 5 to 7 per plant with my current setup which I'm happy with so if yeild were to stay the same or even slightly increased if I switched then I certainly wouldnt complain, the issue for me atm is the cost of the power to run my 600 hps works out to around £160 a month, and from what I can see the zeus can drastically drop that cost, but I'm just a bit worried that if I go and spend £700 plus on a zeus my yields would drop and therefore wasted my money in the first place and 700 smackers down the pan

It's absolutely worth the switch...

Youll most definitely have to ”re dial” in your environment. Don’t expect more yields off your first or second run after the switch.

600 watts is 600 watts on the power bill regardless. You’ll likely use more electric after you heat the grow extra

I just added my first LED and replaced a 600 HPS . Winter now requires some heat . I can dim down to 15 percent during seedling 25-50 during veg . I think it will be cheaper in the long run . I don’t see a need for AC in summer now ?
I don’t miss having cooling fans ducting to my hoods . Setup and take down is a breeze . I’m keeping my HPS as a backup tho ! I’m happy with the switch but have yet to flower . So far really happy !

5-7 oz a plant with a 6 pot autopot, so assuming 6 plants, it's already fantastic yield fir a 1.2 x 1.2m tent.

As others have said, you won't save money on electric swapping from 600w hps to 600w zeus.

You could use a smaller light around 400w+ and save some money. But is it worth it for the price.

For what it's worth I increased my yield when I switched to led but I wasn't pulling 30oz from a 600w hps in that space before I switched.

A mate of mines got that zeus and loves it, I'd happily get one .

I still like to veg with either mh of cmh because it's easier to veg without adding secondary heat.

In the UK our climate is reasonable most of the year. I don't have to worry about heating my flower tent. Just turn my fan down or up

My environment is pretty ok tbh, sits at around 21/22c lights off and thats without any extra heating added, so I'd assume I wouldn't need to add much heat as surely the ambient heat from the LED would provide any extra heat needed but I could be totally wrong

I have a 5x11 room
Purchased a Viparspectra 4000 for just under 400$
It’s rated at 450 watts but the numbers are off the charts . Full spectrum, quality built aluminum , Samsung LED , 5 percent far red , dimmable . I plan to add 2 more for a 9x5 foot print . No assembly required , out of the box and hanging in 5 minutes.

so you pull a kilo from that 1.2x1.2 with 600hps? which comes to about 1.6 gpw. now with my lumatek attis which is like 2.1-2.2 umol/j fixture efficiency i pull 1.5-1.6 gpw with clones and 1-2 weeks of veg. so with zeus pro at 2.9 umol/j i am pretty sure you can hit that 1.6 easy. so using it dimmed at 480w can save you 120w like 1.44kw each day which is good savings without sacrificing yield.
