Are you one of those growers who disposes of his bud trimmings without getting the tirchs out? I use to think the only way to make hash was by gathering the sticky stuff when I was trimming my buds and though that made excellent hash, so much was going to waste when the job was done.
My older brother, being my mentor when it comes to growing and harvesting knew this too and looked up for different ways to make hash. Over the years, he has perfected a method that everyone approves when it comes to the taste and high of a good hash, and this, made simply with household items.
First you need a sturdy metal window screen, a large bowl(stainless steel or smooth plastic), a leather glove(those stems can poke) and of course some nice bud trimmings(anything that looks frosty). Place the screen over the bowl then take a large handful of one week dried trimmings and rub them through the screen into the bowl below.
After you have worked all of your weed through the screen, its time to get your wife's nylon socks! I got creative with this, I went to the dollar store and got a small box roughly 5'' square. I made a hole big enough for my hand to fit in there and shake everything around. I then take a small handful at a time and stir everything around with my fingers for 3 minutes or so. I now see a nice off white powder at the bottom of the bowl.
Set filtered weed aside for a later shaking. After going through all the shake, the kief comes out of the stainless steel bowl by just taping it gently with a butter knife. I like to store my kief in empty pill bottles and press only 1 gram at a time. Pressing it months ahead of time might give you crumbly hash when it's time to smoke it.
Now that you have your top quality hash, you can shake all your weed a second time in the nylon sock for a lesser quality hash that you can sell or give to friends. I find that if you shake a third time you will get rock hard greenish hash that crumbles, tastes strong and is harsh to smoke.
To make hash with the kief, I put 1 gram of the stuff in a ziplock bag and work it down into a corner. If you have hot hands, just hold the part of the bag with the kief in it firmly in your had and let it warm up. If your hands are not hot enough just blow some warm breath on it. After a minute or two, the kief in the bag should chunk up, flip the bag inside out and make one chunk with everything. Now that you have one nice chunk to work with, make a ball and get a small vice...if you don't have a vice, i saw a guy use a door hinge and a pair of vice grips to press his hash, worked fine. Press it as much as you can, down to the thickness of a dime, fold twice and press again. Press it for a total of 8 times folding it twice between every pressing. Voila, a bi-product of your harvest worth it's weight in gold if you ask me
