cutting hles in a rubbermaid container is ALOT harder then you expect took 2 hours for 3 holes. iany advice would be awesome.

get a can about the size of hole you need.

make sure its metal and fairly sturdy.

one end needs to be open. heat that end with small propane plumbers torch or use your stove top.

WEAR OVEN MIT OR GRILLING GLOVE TO HANDLE THE HEATED CAN.

DONT NEED IT TOO HOT JUST ENOUGH TO MELT THROUGH.

so carefully pick up your heated can and press out holes. might be a little trimming of plastic stringers but should do ok.


jig saw might work with a wood blade but that might heat up and get gummed up.

try going to frys or some electronics store and get a cheapo soldering gun and take a hammer and flatten the tip, then use it like a hot knife and cut away

The right tools for the job make things much faster. Get a drill and hole saw set.

A quicker circle cutting method and I always get near perfect circles as you cut a little at a time.

Mark the size of the Circle you are cutting. from the centre insert your knife and cut down to the edge, repeat as if you are cutting a pie, I find 1/8ths easiest. once you have done this cut the triangles carefully one at a time following your circle, if its thicker plastic scoring the edge and bending in will snap it easily.

I ruined several bucket lids trying to make holes, then I got a hole saw for the drill and they are all perfect now, not to mention I can use it for all kinds of other things not just holes in my bucket lids, I can put holes everywhere now!

Lol... Me too. I used the same hole-saw to put holes in a cab I built also.

dude i just did mine like 15 mins ago and i used a hole saw,perfect each time,couldnt of bin a better tool,i was a bit iffy as well,but it was fine ay,was a 78mm for net cups;)
