05_03_2007 - Introduction:
Hi all,
I am an absolute beginner in the weed growing world. I have been looking for information on growing at home, and have found a huge amount of info online, thru torrents and email, and a couple of books borrowed from friends.
But this information doesnt target one niche. The curious grower, with very little cash (less than 20 bucks to spend on the whole lifecycle of the plant), who just wants to grow some bud, so that he can share it with some friends in 3 months.
Before I start with my grow journal, I will briefly tell you about my plant Al.
Al was given to me October 16th last year as a house warming present. He was 3cm's tall, and lived out of half a milk carton. I (and the "donator") have no idea what strain Al is, so if you think you know what it is... it would be great to get some feedback.
(Sorry, no pics from Al's early years...)
Anyway, I bought a bag of rose bush dirt (Cheapest sack of dirt I could find, apparently good for roses. it has no ingredient or composition list, but it does mention that it is a mix of humus, guano, clay and sand) and transplanted Al over to a 5 litre clay vase, filled with this soil.
Al wilted for a couple of days (This is getting long-winded.... sorry...) and recovered.
Al has been grown in my sitting room, out of direct sun most of the day, and I have watered it with water (till the brim), every other day. There was a spell of 4 weeks when I went on holiday to Africa for 4 weeks. Al was left to fend for himself, (as I smoked some of him before, and nothing happened, so i thought he was male) on my varanda. Average temperature while i was gone was 12º Centigr. Rainfall was enough to not let it dry out completely.
Anyway, I was gonna throw it out, but decided to give it a last try. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out Al packed quite a punch. So I decided to keep it. Here's Al:
Yeah, pretty bad, huh?
here's a pic showing the top, after having clipped off the top most bud:
And here's some bud close-ups:
And Just one more:
(I can sense a disturbance in the weed-growers force... like millions of weed growers cried out in pain after seeing the pics...)
I know, looks bad, but it does taste really good, and packs quite a punch...
So, my plan is this:
1 - Use the most basic and cheapest methods available to me to grow my little babies, fresh in from Malawi
2 - Try and detail everything here, so that others who want to try and rough it know what to expect.
3 - I am not saying this is the best method, or my recommended method. You will probably get much lower production. This is just a test to see what harsh conditions Malawi Gold can withstand.
HELP... what could I have done to better this step, for zero cost?
All comments are welcome.
(Not promising anything, but the best comments might get a taste of the finished product...)
On we Go!!!
