Male plant?

I've been growing a couple of autoflowers for about 2 months, and a couple of weeks ago they began flowering. Today I discovered growths on the second plant that appear to be male parts. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

And if so, what do I do?

You’ve got a he/she there my friend. Either pluck the nanners as it grows or scrap it.

I personally would kill it, but that’s just me.

Thanks. I'll try cutting off the nanners and hope the plant can still be harvested.

Is there anything I can do to try and prevent more nanners from growing?

Also, should I seperate the hermie plant from the other normal plant and permanently keep them away from each other? Could one pollinate the other?

Yes and no. The few hermies I’ve had were due to unstable genetics. Give a detailed breakdown of your setup for a better answer.

If you manage to stay on top of plucking nanners as much as possible, the chance for cross pollination lessens. Won’t be 100% though. Also, it’s a good idea to wet your fingers if you pluck them off, to help prevent any pollen from finding their way to a new home. Try to catch them while they’re tiny as well. Don’t let them create viable pollen.

So I would keep it separate to help prevent pollination. Which is why I’ve just scraped hermies in the past.

That's not a bad idea assuming there's no other plants around.

Certainly better than nothing.
he could have others, but only mentioned the two autos. if he's going to pollinate a tent full of photos, then i'd get rid of it too, but if it's only those two autos, i'd just go with it, and try again when they're done.

Ultimately up to you, that's a full blown hermie though. If you're not concerned with a few seeds in your buds or other plants keep it and pluck the balls and get some experience under your belt. If you are, kill it and move on, personally I'd cut it down but that's just me

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Very much appreciated!

After having removed the male sacs last Thursday the hermie has not grown any new ones. I'll keep a close eye on it for sure.

It would be such a waste to kill the plant after putting a lot of time and energy into it. This is only my very first summer growing cannabis so I'd hate to chuck half of the work when I'm this far into it (over 2 months) and so close to harvest. I won't get another chance until next spring as I'm growing using only the sun light.

I'm checking my plants daily, inspecting the leaves for bugs, seeing if they need watering, if they are not too hot in the sun, etc.

What I did find remarkable is that the one that hermied barely smells, whereas the other one already since the second week smelled rather skunky, and they are both the exact same strain - BCN Critical XXL Auto from Seedstockers.

The strain is BCN Critical XXL Auto from Seedstockers. I'm growing indoors behind the window where the plants receive about 15 hours of daylight. The windows are facing west. I'm using regular potting soil for growing vegetables, mixed with akadama for drainage. One plant is in a plastic pot of about 2.5 liters and the other in a 3.5 liter ceramic pot. Up until recently I've not added any nutrients. The other day the hermied plant showed yellowing leaf tips indicating a deficiency so I added some slow release fertilizer balls to the soil. A couple of days later I discovered the male sacs near the bottom of the plant.

If you manage to stay on top of plucking nanners as much as possible, the chance for cross pollination lessens. Won’t be 100% though. Good tip about wetting your finger, cheers!

well, it's an auto, it's not like he's going to be passing the genetics along....why not grow it out and just pick a few seeds out of the bud?
If I were to leave the male sacs alone, would that not take away energy the plant needs for growing the flowers and buds? Are seed filled buds less potent than clean ones?

Indeed, I'm only growing these 2 autoflowering plants. They are not in a tent but behind the window where they receive about 15 hours of daylight.

What I did do though is seperate the two plants, one is now in my living room and the other in my bedroom.

actually, depending on who you ask, no...
a lot of people claim that not only is at at least as potent as unpollinated bud, it also has a more complex terpene profile, and possibly some cannabinoids that aren't present unless the bud has been pollinated...
i'm not positive about that claim, but i do know i've gotten pretty fucking high on buds that had a few seeds in it

Those aren't nanners..........they're balls.
Poor genetics.........kill it.
He's right. Its one thing if you have a few nanners in later flower and you want to pluck and pray, a few seeds here and there are not the end of the world; but this is a full blown herm. Its not worth the light money.

Im an old timer and Sinse was rare back in my day (80's) in fact most weed had seeds and it still got you very high, maybe not as much as todays but back then seeds were OK. Thats what album covers are made for, to roll seeds... (sorry showing my age, yes album covers are the perfect rolling tray...)
Also, i know seeds take away from thc potency, but i just wonder if a few seeds per nug won't impart
a smoother flavor and a better high. Hell, used to be you couldn't get it w/o seeds and
now you can't score it with seeds. There is also something to be said about heirloom cannabis.

Thanks, 9#Purple and doughper!

Any updates??
Yes, I didn't have to pluck off any more balls from the plant and it grew along okay-ish and I ended up harvesting it. After drying and curing it actually turned out that the buds, as small as they were, were VERY potent. I got so high from just a small little bud that I ended up greening out from it.

I also discovered a seed in the plant while harvesting. I saved it and planted it just to see what it'll do and to my surprise it's growing a whole new plant from it.
